I woke to a white world. It is very pretty and makes me feel very festive. I'm not sure if I'm festive enough to start dragging out boxes of Christmas decor and "decking the halls", but I did have a look at my baking supplies to see what I need to pick up for some Christmas baking (maybe this weekend?).
Scenes from my morning chicken chores. It's the first time most of the hens have witnessed snow. I don't think any of them have bravely ventured out yet.
I finished a book in about two days. This is from a series of books about the "Thursday Murder Club". It is not high brow literature and I have enjoyed every one so far! I highly recommend, but they are best if read in order.
I imagine some of you are recovering from Thanksgiving and others, like me, are getting used to the idea that our snow is likely here to stay now (rest of the week looks like more to come). Have you started to decorate for the season? Do you bother anymore? Will you be baking or buying? Let's not even talk about shopping.
I haven't started decorating yet. I refuse to do anything till it's at least December. I'm hoping my grandkids will put up the tree.
ReplyDeleteI might make a few fruit/Xmas cakes though and make a few jars of pickled onions.
That book looks just like the sort of thing I enjoy reading. I'll look out for the series
I think you’d really like it!
DeleteThe Osman series is hilarious! Definitely try it, anyone who hasn't. Some great characters.
ReplyDeleteWe will be on our way home from a family visiting trip..and we might be getting snow too...it will at least be colder
ReplyDeleteCan't get signed in with Mama Pea . . . but this is me! Our weather has finally turned colder as it would normally be this time of year. But no snow or any in our forecast. Yours is lovely! I think I have enough leftovers from Thanksgiving that we'll only have to warm up our meals all weekend which is just fine. I'll take down my fall/Thanksgiving decorations this weekend (I think) and get the Christmas ones up. And be glad when that's done! I'm gonna try to hold myself back on making so many holiday goodies this year as I ended up tossing some last year. :o(
ReplyDeleteHi MP! I had that problem on someone else’s blog and learned that when I started writing a comment, three little pictures come up at the bottom of the comment box. One looks like an envelope and if you click that, you can sign in with your email, name and your blog address. Then you’re not anonymous anymore. I don’t know why that happens. I’m not sure if that is the case with my blog.
DeleteI'm on a bus trip to the U.S. to do some Christmas shopping, but I have to admit there hasn't been a lot accomplished. It's been cold but thankfully, no snow.
ReplyDeleteThe snow looks quite serene and picturesque but how do families get the children to school and how do elderlies like myself do the shopping?
ReplyDeleteHere we are equipped with vehicles/ tires capable of driving through ridiculous amounts of snow and school buses only get cancelled in extreme situations. We have snow removal equipment that clears roads and sidewalks.
DeleteWaking to a snow cover seems early in the season. The white makes everything look pristine and beautiful. The snow is a lovely backdrop for your Christmas lights. No snow here yet. It is 40 degree F days and a most nights hit 32 and freezing. I've bought some gifts but no decorating has been done.
ReplyDeletelovely snow! I always wanted some at Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteIf I could send it your way…
DeleteWe had about a foot of snow in October and now it is all gone. Temperatures are rapidly dropping though so more snow should be coming very soon. The snow tires were put on the car a couple of weeks ago so we are ready for what Mother Nature has instore for us here in the southeast corner of my province. However we do get snowed in occasionally and our SUV even with snow tires can't make it through. Thank heavens for the old truck on those days.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Your first photo is christmas card stuff, just add holly sprig. Poor chooks. I bet they are wondering what has happened to their world.
ReplyDeleteThe first snowfall of winter is always a delight. Then it loses its charms real quick after that, LOL! I intend to bake various cookies for Xmas and I laid in my supplies a couple of weeks ago while stocks were high. Apparently there is a sugar and chocolate shortage this year, due to a strike at Rogers Sugar and a poor chocolate harvest.
ReplyDeleteOh dear - I was not aware of that. Also buying butter means taking out a second mortgage!
DeleteI think that snow is gorgeous. We had some on our deck this morning here in central NY state. We are not far from Lake Ontario, so we get plenty of lake effect snow. We got a few Christmas things out last week, but today we really decorated. A real tree, lots of little fake trees, white lights, so cozy. We have only four of our kids left here at home, they are still enthusiastic about decorating and getting the tree. It's a lot of work, but it's nice in here. As for shopping, I've only just begun, prices are high and ugh, I am just not feeling it...maybe I'll just give cookies, wine, and coffee....
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! It is so strange that we have not had one flake yet...and I still have a few plants blooming! Not at all typical for us. I have started decorating, and it makes me feel happy. I doubt I will bake much as it goes uneaten these days. I love to bake, but no one wants the calories these days, it seems. Gifting will be reduced too, as last year we received gifts from only one son, and most grands never acknowledged the packages I mailed...and mailing them is expensive these days. But I will start my cards tomorrow, as several will go overseas.
ReplyDeleteNo decorating here until at least December, but am thinking of digging out recipes and preparing lists for some baking. Enjoy the Osman books. I have that one on a hold list. We have some snow, and it has been decidedly colder of late.
ReplyDeleteLove your snowy pics! So beautiful (but cold!). And I read the sample of that book on my Kindle app and it did sound good. I may have to get it. As for decorating for Christmas, we did go out and get our tree yesterday. The rest of the house is still a combination of Easter (because I love the bunnies), Halloween, and a Santa here and there.
ReplyDeleteSnow already! I envy you. It's at least chilly here so it feels seasonally appropriate. So often we can get freak warm spells even this late in the year.
ReplyDeleteIt always looks so clean and fresh and pretty too, but not for me, .....cold!!!! My husband has just read that book too, it was a birthday present, I may read it but I am hooked on books by Gillian McAllister at the moment, so may be my next read..
ReplyDeleteI adore that series! But I haven't read that one yet. We had our first real snow today (the first was on Halloween but not much). And it was the first day I've started decorating. I'm having a hard time getting my groove going this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the book recommendation. I read quite a bit in the winter. I haven't started decorating and regret it as it snowed here also and got very cold. I'm baking. Just finished a huge batch of lefse. Yum! Wish I could share it with you.
ReplyDeleteStir Up Sunday is my traditional Christmas baking day (this year November 26th). Each year though it does get less & less as we spread & spread! We have started our slow Christmas decorating, the whole house gets involved - yes Christmas throws up here (lol). You certainly had much more snow than us - it was mostly rain (so far). ... Mary-Lou =^..^=
ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of snow--I do wonder what your hens are thinking? 😳
ReplyDeleteI'm hardly decorating this year as we have so many projects going on and I was (easily) able to convince my youngest to host Christmas Eve this year, which takes a lot of pressure off me.
Good luck with your decorating.
Thanksgiving stuff put away. Christmas stuff came out next day. Took 3 days to get it all up since I put up 3 trees and decorate the entire house. Shopping all done just need to wrap and bake now that's it.
