New Ann Cleeves

I finished reading the new Vera mystery by Ann Cleeves. I so enjoy her writing and have devoured her whole Shetland series and her new series as well ( Two Rivers). This Vera one did not disappoint and I did not successfully guess “who done it”, which is a good thing.

I have a couple more library books to read:

As well, a friend dropped off this book, wanting me to read it:

So I have lots to keep me occupied this month.

  1. I've read "Where the Crawdads Sing" and it is worthy. They say the movie is good too, but I haven't seen that yet.

  2. I've never read any of these authors. I'd be curious to try something from Ann Cleeves. I always enjoy a good "who done it"!

    1. Oh, Ann Cleeves, for sure! Pick either the Vera series, or the Shetland series to start out with. Shetland should be read in order if possible.

  3. "Where the Crawdads Sing" is a good book. Just received the new Ann Cleeves book, "The Rising Tide" a week or so ago and your post reminded me to curl up for a good read. Thank you! Hope you're able to sleep a little better by now. The soreness lasted me a week or two, as I recall. --Elise

  5. I am reading The Persian Pickle Club. Too soon to tell. If you ever want an uplifting book Foxglove and Hedgehog Days is my all time favorite!

  6. I'm in a Very long library clue for The Rising Tide. 173rd out of 263! but they have more than 40 copies so shouldn't be too long.
I must have read the Kate Ellis when it was first out several years ago as I usually request them as they come out - they are always good. Enjoyed Crawdads just recently, it was good but not sure about "A worldwide sensation" as it says on your copy!

  10. I've never read the Vera books, but enjoy the Vera series on TV. Perhaps I need to try them. As for Where the Crawdads Sing... I read it and it was OK, definitely not a favorite...

  11. I must start all the Cleeves from the beginning. I love that character and her writing!

  12. I wasn't thrilled with Where the Crawdads Sing. There were inaccuracies about NC that bothered me, and the main character became just too perfect. There were other things too, but the writing was very good and the science was intriguing and probably correct. But I know I am in a minority, as almost everyone I know who has read the book loved it.

I haven't read Ann Cleves, but tried to watch the series Vera. She didn't appeal to me but maybe I need to try again. We loved the series Shetland...was that based on her booms?

I am gladbyou have reading and rest time, and that Thanksgiving prep was out if your hands.

    1. Yes, she wrote the Shetland series that the tv show was based upon. You're not the only one who didn't love Where the Crawdads Sing. I shall see...

  14. When I wrote about British tv-detective-series I was fascinated by Ann Cleeves and the fine adaption of "Vera" for TV. Her books are of course more deep. "Shetland" I know only as TV adaption, which I also love, and you make me curious about "Two Rivers". And the new novel too, thank you - it will bring suspense to the evenings in the Bavarian village where I spend a lot of time at the moment.

  16. I have never read any Ann Cleeves (or watched the Vera mysteries on TV, assuming it is the same Vera). I enjoyed Wicked Autumn, although it took me a while to get into it as I recall. The Crawdad book is on my shelf TBR.
