For those of you who wish to romanticise the notion of an old fashioned snow storm, being stuck inside with a roaring fire and good book, here is my world this morning. I cannot remember which poet I studied who wrote about how snow softens the edges, but the undisturbed heavy blanket which surrounds us this morning certainly has that effect.
-the doorway to the back porch
-the sheer volume on the front porch
-taken in that beautiful blue light of early morning
It boggles my mind as I read some of your blogs where you write of snowdrops being over and daffodils emerging, harvesting the first of your rhubarb, and taking scenic walks. Some day, months from now, that will be my reality, too.
Lovely Photos....A poem..What a good idea..!
ReplyDeleteShovelling Snow...
by Harry Edward Mills
Sparkling eyes, cheeks aglow,
See him shovelling through the snow.
Few will tread his opened way,
None his labors will repay;
Hear him humming soft and low,
As he shovels in the snow.
At a humble window see
Picture fair as fair can be;
Maidenhood in rustic bloom
Standing by an idle broom.
How the blushes come and go
As she sees the flying snow.
Simple hearts so young and warm,
Love has taken you by storm.
May the winters as they roll,
Closer bind you soul to soul;
May your heaven here below
Be as spotless as the snow...
Absolutely beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour snow photos are so beautiful, not having seen much snow falls in my life, it is hard for me to imagine having that much, I would cozy by a fire and read too! i bet you have the best summers and falls, our summer and falls are scorchers with high humidity.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting and for your sweet comment.
Stay warm.
Blessings,
Sue
Your flowers look like they are blooming snow! 😊
ReplyDeleteRichard Adams pretty much nailed it in "Watership Down" when he said 'Many human beings say that they enjoy the winter, but what they really enjoy is feeling proof against it.' Snow is lovely - when you've a warm house, a secure roof, plenty of food, and don't have to go out and deal with it.
ReplyDeleteSo, so very beautiful when viewed through the window.
ReplyDeleteYou've taken some wonderful snow shots there! And it's going to snow here in Edmonton all weekend too -- it's started already. March is coming in like a lion,
ReplyDeleteSuper photos.No snow for us,so far,fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteOMG Jenn, my tummy has a huge knot in it , looking at this snow. So scary to me. The only thing pretty to me are the spent flowers with snow hats. Hey, I am beginning to think that poet was Willie...there he goes glamorizing the snow again. :):) I did love his poem. Stay warm and safe dear friend, Blessings, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteThank you Willie for the poem. I did truly enjoy it. Not so much the snow that has befallen us the last three days, with the concomitant terrible driving.
ReplyDeleteHere in England that much snow is hard to imagine but my goodness what beautiful photos you have here today.
ReplyDeleteSome great shots there Jenn...we had the blizzard last night too!!
ReplyDeleteWas hoping to get away with little or no snow this Winter...
Seems I was wrong...hahaha!!
Gonna be 5 tomorrow and the next few days...the big meltdown!!
Enjoy your weekend...
cheers!
Linda :o)
Very beautiful...but its beauty may pall after a while?
ReplyDeleteLovely photos but im glad i dont have to live with it!!
ReplyDeleteThere must be a very long German word to describe the complex of emotions I feel when reading blogs from across the ocean describing all the spring flowers and showing pictures of all the bright green grass and declaring there's hope! Spring may come yet! Because the word jealous just does not do my feelings justice at such moments. If I were a better person, I'm sure it would not make me so d***ed grumpy to see all the lovely snowdrops, primroses, and daffodils.
ReplyDeletejust discovered your blog and binge reading older posts- love it!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you definitely have had more snow than here. You must get lake effect snow. My shoulders and back are aching from all the shovelling. People who romanticize snowfall don't realize how much work digging out entails!
ReplyDeleteReally pretty shots. No flowers up here yet but lots of snow this weekend. Last weekend however, was spring. But I tell you, I really am enjoying the winter weekend. Fridge and freezer are filled too so I've been baking and playing all day in my lab/kitchen.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos, I hope you are enjoying your holiday from school!
ReplyDeleteI hurt so bad from shoveling that it is hard to see the beauty.
ReplyDeleteCertainly softened a lot of edges by you. Your picket fence has no pickets.
ReplyDeleteYour snow photos never cease to amaze me! I'm sure it's really cold, a cold I don't think I've ever experienced, but the effect is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow...beautiful but a lot of work ahead for someone. The one of the fence is really fine.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping we're done with snow for the winter, but we've had some huge snowstorms in March. Your photos are simply beautiful; they show the best of what snow can be! But all I can think of is how much work you have in front of you to dig out. Hope you have some heavy-duty snow moving equipment!
ReplyDeletewe have had so little snow in NH this winter that I actually would welcome a good snowstorm. But I would not be out shoveling or digging out my car since we live in an apt and have underground parking. You do have a lot of digging out to do and hopefully Mother Nature can help with some melting, but not soon enough.
ReplyDeleteLove that fence shot to the max! Oh, you were mightily slammed! Stay cozy!
ReplyDeleteI too see all the overseas post of spring flowers showing & groan in envy. I've had enough of winter & last Wednesday-Friday's storm pushed me over the top. I think it's the first of the season where so much was cancelled because of the white outs, even our garbage collection was cancelled. Shall we all gather to go have a visit with Wiarton Willie?! (col). ... Mary-Lou =^..^=
ReplyDeleteYou're getting all the snow we didn't here in Connecticut. It's the winter that wasn't much of one.
ReplyDeleteI think that we get a longer winter here in Canada than most places. That being said, unless unpredictable March weather dumps lots of snow here in southeastern Saskatchewan, we have really had very little snowfall this winter.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I love a good snow storm - as long as I do not have to go outside, drive or do any chores during or after. We are a long way from snow drops, too.
ReplyDeleteI love your "snow blossoms" on the tall stems. I'm really glad that the snow is not mine. Yes, it is beautiful, but I'm ready for a warm Spring. In catching up on your other posts, I'm glad you were able to get your phone problem fixed. That was such an unusual predicament. You have a great day, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteWe have barely any snow here, it's been such a weird winter....cold, but the snow has been coming only an inch at a time....with the exception of our 30 inches we got very early on! Why do I get the feeling we're in for at least one more whopper of a storm before spring really appears?
ReplyDeleteIt looks quite magical! I think snow always makes it looks soft and pretty outdoors, but I'm ready for some flowers and some colour!
ReplyDeleteSince I've ever only seen snow a handful of times here where I live, deep south Louisiana, in my 65 yrs, I'm sure not one to speak on this. But what I do remember of a snow we had 5-6yrs ago....when it actually stuck to the ground and stayed for a whole day...was walking in it and realizing the quiet sound of snow. Peace. Calm. Quiet. So lovely and I imagined that to be what Heaven sounds like on a day when you really really need the calm!!
ReplyDeleteOutstanding Photos - That Fence Shot, Right On - Be Well And Find That Sweet Spot Between The Speakers
ReplyDeleteCheers
Oh! I curse my bad luck! I've never seen snow and your photos are making me yearn for it. Especially at a time when we are in the midst of a ferocious summer. A friend from the Music class in Coimbatore recently returned from Canada. Her photographs of the Canadian scenery are mind-boggling.
