Post Christmas Post

How can the weather go from full on blizzard with all roads closed to sunshine and a high of 7 degrees celsius (44 degrees fahrenheit) four days later? I've just shoveled a bit of snow and opened up the chickens so they can stand in the sunlight for a little while. I took the new header photo today while the sun was creating nice shadows on the snow. We are supposed to get to a high of 10 C tomorrow (50 F)!

Christmas happened on the 25th with just our immediate family. It was very nice and very cozy with huge amounts of snow outside and more of it continuing to come down. I am now done with Christmas, ha ha! Is anyone else like that, ready to pack it all up and put it away for another year? I'll do it in drips and drabs, but I'm not one of those people who keeps Christmas on display after the New Year. We have zero plans for New Years Eve and I am totally fine with that! All I can say is I would like if 2023 is not as dramatic as the previous year!

Finally, yesterday my husband and I drove to "the city" to see my sister who is sitting up in bed, talking, sounding like herself, looking much more like herself, and has a dramatic reduction in the amount of lines and tubes assisting and monitoring her. Of course she has days and weeks ahead of her in terms of recovery, but her improvement has been mind blowing. She has been out of ICU for a few days now and she has just been approved to eat food. I am hoping that she can have more tubes, etc. removed in the very near future. Many family members and friends created short videos of encouragement for her and sent them to one of her daughters who then had them compiled into one video which she has been able to watch. I got to see it yesterday with her watching it again and it was heartwarming. Her daughters set up a Gofundme account, as she won't be able to work for a while and it was unknown how long her progress would take. People have been incredibly generous and brought me to tears on a number of occasions.

  1. SO glad to hear that Jade is well on her way to recovery. I also hope that the new year is going to be a gentler year. Mr Man & I were saying the same thing about Mother Nature's extremes, but when she speaks blizzard there's nothing to do but obey. I was thankful to be cozy, warm & safe during the three days of storms. Happy New Year ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^=

    1. Well yes, and when all roads are declared closed, you can only just stay put.

  2. Yes, weather reports from all over the country, Canada and the world(!) are of weird weather that isn't the norm as we've all come to know it. Seems to be we're entering a new phase which has probably been repeated many times in history. We just haven't been around to witness it. Great news of your sister's continued recovery. Keep us posted, please. I've been wondering if your sister had covid shots and/or boosters or chose to forego them. If you don't care to share, that's fine.

    1. Oh for sure, I remember huge storms when I was younger, as well as unseasonably warm times. This is nothing new. My sister was vaccinated. I don’t know about boosters, but as is clearly known now that both vaccinated and unvaccinated people can get Covid and can transmit Covid, it doesn’t much matter. Covid was tested for and she was negative.

  3. I'm well over Xmas too and have started surreptitiously putting things in boxes.
Weather in Greece is unusually mild. Sunshine during the day very damp nights. My grandkids are swimming. It's not the first time. Weather definitely goes around.
Such good news about Jade. What a fantastic idea those video messages were.

    1. Yes, I thought the videos were perfect! It was amazing how many family pets became part of the videos which was great as my sister adores animals.

  9. What good news! What a good way for the year to end, with her getting well and you also recovering and with a good outlook.
Some days I am like your chickens, preferring to just look out rather than go out!

  12. Medical science is amazing and I'm glad to hear Jade is recovering nicely. The weather swings from very cold to delightfully mild. Today reached 50 degrees F. It felt like Spring instead of late December. All my gift boxes, baskets, bags and ribbons are back in storage. The Christmas tree will come down after the first of January. My outside wreaths will come off the outside doors and I'll hang them on tree branches in the woodlands behind my house. I find it whimsical to watch wildlife investigate the wreaths.

  14. What wonderful news about Jade! As someone else has said, this was the best gift your family could have received.
I generally keep Christmas decorations up until New Years, but with a trip planned I've put most everything away. I've left out snow themed items for now...otherwise the house would look desolate.

  19. We keep our Christmas decorations (mostly tree and a few other things here and there) around until the week after New Years. I actually hate to see the tree go... it's so cozy with it shining in the room. Anyway, so happy to hear that Jade is doing well. What a wonderful Christmas gift. And I too hope 2023 is less eventful... we could do with quiet and kind.

  22. I'm so glad you were able to go visit your sister and that things are looking up. Our weather sounds akin to yours -- we were close to 60 yesterday and all our snow (and there was quite a bit) is gone. Which is fine with me, but it sure makes me wonder about our world! I send warm greetings to you and your family for a happy -- and healthy -- new year.

  24. I think that weird weather made its way down into the USA as well. (Of course, not as extreme in my area) I'm glad you had a nice, quiet Christmas. I too am ready for all the decorations to be gone until next year. Wishing you and your family a No Drama 2023; great news about your Sister!!

  29. I also have been 'out of blogland' because of overusing our limited data allotment leading to Christmas. What an holiday season you have endured! So glad to hear that your sister is on the up-swing. Best wishes for the New Year to you and yours.

  31. I was so happy to read your sister's good news. As terrible as it was for her loved ones, it must have also brought joy to the holiday season as she gradually improved. Best wishes to you and your family for 2023.
My Christmas decorations were quickly packed away as well except for one small angel I somehow missed...again! This year, I've decided to leave her out in case she brings luck.
