Nov. 28

 Scene from my bedroom window:

It’s actually very pretty if you can squint your way through the window screen. It makes me feel Christmasy.

We have new “across from us” neighbours. It’s a family which is nice. They come from a city so I hope they know what they’re in for here: no gas station or corner store in our tiny village. No Costco or IKEA within hours of us. And our cat treats their new property like his own. But husband met “him” and says he seems very nice.

Husband and I decided to start to watch another series on Netflix together ( we rarely have similar choices in tv watching so it’s nice to sit together and actually watch the same thing). I blew the whole Downton Abbey thing by binge watching it without him when I first messed up my back. So we are now just starting to watch Narcos which likely many people have already watched. But so far so good, although we are only three episodes in and quite a few people have already been shot, but that’s to be expected.

Anyway, it’s a quiet dull Sunday for me and I wish I could start decorating for Christmas but perhaps not yet as my back would be protesting too much.We may buy our tree tomorrow although it’s early for us, but “they” say there will be a shortage of Christmas trees, whether “they” are to be believed or not, I don’t know.

  1. Hope your back improves soon, busy time of year to be not 100%
A good series to watch together is Alone...such clever, brave, strong willed people.

  2. We got a bit of snow here today but it will be gone by Thursday as it is forecast to be 8C. Hopefully your new neighbours researched the area before they bought - that could be a nasty surprise. Take care of your back.

  3. We have a dusting of snow and we are cold enough for it to stay. We have a gas station/convenience store also known as the place to gather all gossip going around town. When people from the city move here they start wanting to change things makes me crazy. I hope your back is better soon.

  4. I know IKEA is not selling Christmas trees this year. I don't put up a tree though, so it's all the same to me. Better buy your tree early just to be safe; you can just leave it outside until you're ready to put it up later in December. People used to do that all the time when I was a kid because no one put up their tree more than a week before the Big Day.

  5. Hope your back is better soon. I have never watched that series. Might have to give it a go.

    God bless.

  6. Your snow looks beautiful. I got my Christmas tree at a garden center and there was surprisingly no shortage. Like you, I expected tree shortages. This is a busy time of year with the holidays. I hope you feel better soon.

  7. Yes, snow seems necessary to celebrate the Christmas season. I miss it.

  8. Just wanted to say hello from the ridge, and wish you recovery on that back! I ordered pain patches from Body Align, for my 91 year old Mom’s painful back. They work very will for her. Blessings to you and your family !

  9. Sorry about your back. It is nice when you and your spouse enjoy the same series. I like it when we do, but it is very rare.

  11. Here's hoping your back will improve very soon. There's just too much to do around this time of year... May the magic of Christmas bring you a small miracle! And hopefully you will find a great tree (no shortages that we can see around here... at least not now). And Congrats on the nice new neighbors!

  12. I've never seen either of those programmes. Thank goodness you've got Netflix and have something to entertain you. Get better soon

  13. It seems the price of trees has gone up, too. We always bought our tree from IKEA and it was always a pretty shape. Our second choice was a local nursery in Mississauga but sadly due to a gypsy moth infestation on the tree planation they ususlly get their trees from, no trees this year. A larger nursery nearby had beautiful trees but prices started around $70. The one we liked was $170.00. We moved on and finally purchased one at a nursery closer to home for $88. Still very expensive when you're used to paying $25. Apparently Fresco is charging $35 and we saw trees at Metro for $52. We're happy with the one we bought and it is waiting patiently for us in the backyard .

  14. Very Christmassy. Love your header. We just have a dusting of snow, but it is staying, so far. Have been perusing the back forty, for a tree. There are a few candidates.

  15. We have a good covering of snow here but this afternoon it has suddenly come warmer and it quickly disappearing.

  16. The new header photo is lovely, though makes me feel chilly. The first few snows are pretty...after that I'm over winter.

Hope your back improves soon. Not being able to prep for Christmas would drive me nuts.

  17. The screen doesn't take away from that beautiful view at all! Here we are still experiencing highs in the 60s. All of our ski areas are making snow, because #1, it's so dry, and #2, it's too warm for any snow that might fall to stay there.
Enjoy your winter wonderland! It sure makes Christmas feel like Christmas!

  18. We are seeing lots of trees in lots but how good they are is anyone's guess. We got snow, too. Not a lot and it won't stick but it does look pretty and it's fun to decorate when you glance outside and it's snowy! How nice to have new neighbors. I hope they enjoy it!

  19. I put out a blog post today - First snow. We had a surprise (to me anyway) snow yesterday which has stayed today but nothing as much as you have. It's supposed to be milder tomorrow so I am sure it will disappear then. I hope your back is on the mend. We are not thinking of trees just yet here.

  20. We will bring a little greenery in, but I prefer trees growing outdoors!
    Hope your back eases soon

  21. Good neighbors are worth their weight in gold so let's hope the first impression of your new ones turns out to be rock solid! I'm in awe of your lovely snowfall. We're starting out the winter in the same way as the last couple. One or two inches (well, we haven't had the TWO inches yet) of snow but no lovely, holiday-ish accumulation as you have. Do take care with your back. Don't want to go backwards instead of forward in your healing!

  22. Retirement is sweet but it's given me a few too many hours to kill in a day. As a result, I've already decorated the inside and outside of my house for Christmas. I've been trying to hold off purchasing the tree until my boys return for the holidays but I'm not sure I can wait. The decorating itch is strong. Your view is lovely!

  23. So sorry about your back. The Mister has sciatica and he went and got a shot. The next day decided to go running again. Guess what. His back is out again. I hope you feel better soon!

  24. I actually squinted and saw beyond the screen lol...it's a beautiful view! I saw the first two seasons of Narcos and loved them, I need to catch up!

  25. Thank you, everyone who left comments. Are you ever still a little surprised that people actually read your blog? Thank you for your well wishes about my back. It’s just going to take the time it takes but I know eventually I’ll be back to normal if not better.
We still have some snow here but that’s to be expected. We did buy a tree but they had already been picked over. If you are interested, it’s a Balsam fir that we bought from our local grocery store. It cost $50.00. (Canadian-don’t know what that is American or in pounds). It is sitting propped up in our car port. We will put it in the living room in a little while.
