My laptop died a bit of a death, so it's been a while since I've written my last post. I've had a look at other people's blogs and made the odd comment here and there. Seventy-five dollars later, my cursor no longer freezes and I no longer get spontaneously booted off wifi. I'm also no longer caught in a loop of windows recovery. I think it was money well spent.
I have nothing exciting to report. I'm just busy with regular ordinary life, daughter is home from university for reading week, son is currently off at a big time basketball tournament, and we ate a variety of leftovers for supper tonight.
I have no idea how people blog on a daily basis, but lord knows I've Pinned lists of blog post ideas you can write about to make your blog as exciting and captivating as possible.
I did my first pulled pork in my Instantpot and it was succulent. The roosters "attacked" husband - he thinks it was due to red pants (don't even ask), but I"m not sure chickens even see in colour.
Several nights ago, I was pleasantly fast asleep, but then wakened up by the sound of... coyotes! They were so loud I actually looked out the bedroom window, expecting to find them in our front yard. It was such an eerie sound. I rushed downstairs and asked husband, who is more of a night owl than I, if the cats were inside. They were, so we closed the cat door and kept them in. I heard the coyotes two more times that night.
Now, I am going to go out in the dark with my flashlight to turn off the chickens' light and settle in for an episode of Coronation Street, and to keep reading my wonderful Louise Penny book - her latest called Kingdom of the Blind. I am intrigued and thoroughly loving it.
We have coyotes behind our house and I kinda like hearing them - a reminder that nature still resist mankind. Good thing to keep the cats in at night. It was strange, when we were in a Athabaskan village in Alaska the sled dogs would kick off every night at eleven-o-clock: you could almost set your watch by it. They would howl for three or four minutes and then go silent?
ReplyDeletethe Ol'Buzzard
That's interesting. I wonder why they did that?
DeleteI did have a coyote right at my door just before Christmas. It was crazy loud! Drove the dog nuts.
ReplyDeleteJust finished catching up on Coronation Street. I get a little bored with it now and again then catch up on CBC Gem. I saw your comment about that actor on Johns blog. The guy creeped me out SO BAD (NOT JOHN! the actor).
Did you get another laptop. I bought a tablet, an Amazon Fire and LOVE IT. Once I got all my stuff up and running on that, I had my laptop rebooted. Works like a charm again. So much crap seems to pile up in hidden cubies on these things.
I did not get a new laptop. I'm glad this was only a $75 fix. There are certain story lines I like on Coronation street and others I fast forward through (I record it).
DeleteOh gosh, me too. GEM is good for that.
DeleteAt Christmas time Ann did pulled pork in her slow cooker. Both were a first for her, and it was fabulous. We have coyotes here in the park. They have become much more open in behavior in the last ten years or so, which made us make our cats indoor cats, and supervise the dogs more closely. They only want a meal, too, so it's our job to take care of ours.
ReplyDeleteJudging from the rabbit tracks on our property, the coyotes shouldn't be all that hungry. I know that they are showing up in more urban areas. We are at the edge of a tiny village with country side all around us, so I'm not all that shocked, but we haven't heard them before.
DeleteWe have both coyotes (brush wolves) and bona fide timber wolves here. Night before last we had a pack of the big timber wolves singing up just behind us. We thought it was probably because of the full moon. We've seen one big wolf a few times in the last several weeks that we know seems to be staying in the area, but didn't know there was a pack of them. Neat to hear them, but kinda scary at the same time!
ReplyDeleteI have never heard wolves. That would shock me for sure. You must close up your birds at night, do you?
DeleteALWAYS! Pine marten are a bigger thread to our birds because the little weasels can weasel into very small spaces and decimate a whole flock of birds in jig time. Also, we see tracks of foxes frequently and you can imagine what they would do to poultry if the birds weren't locked up tight.
DeleteIf your husband had the nerve to wear red pants in public, he's lucky it was just the chickens who attacked him.
ReplyDeleteHa ha, actually, they were red sweat pants. He was home. He has never worn them off property - thank god!
DeleteHAHAHA! Debra's comment... Now I'm drawing a blank. I have no idea what else to add that would top that :)
DeleteWatch out for roosters. I know this for a fact.
ReplyDeleteHow people past everyday, I don't know. I try to post meaningful writing twice a week.
I've only been pecked by Bruce once, but it left a mark on my leg.
DeleteOh yes, close the cat door. Coyotes got a neighbor cat at the lake last summer. Freaks me out! and I have no idea how people blog daily. I can see maybe if you just do a photo a day -- I mean ONE photo a day -- OK, I can see that. But anything beyond would be out of my wheelhouse. I try to go two or three times a week and some weeks are better for that than others. You have to live life to blog about it.
ReplyDeleteWe don't get Coronation Street here. But I do get Louise P! Loved Kingdom of the Blind. I have a question for you about the end when you get there, so let me know when you do!
Not done the book yet, but will post when I do, and then please ask! Your posts are always so full and interesting. There's no way you could post everyday!
DeleteThe sound of coyotes in the night would send shivers down my spine. Hearing the dogs here is bad enough. Always makes me wonder what/who they're Barking at.
ReplyDeleteI always have at least half a dozen blog posts on the go but still often struggle to finish some and wonder if they're really interesting. Daily blogging would soon become chore and a burden
Oh that's interesting. I usually just do one post at a time. Sometimes I just throw two or three words down if I have an idea and that becomes a draft. I might come back to it, I might not.
DeleteFancy you watching Coronation Street. I don't know anybody here who does. I blog daily and never ever plan. I just sit down and start typing.
ReplyDeleteYesterday's post was short but in fact there was a much long version about my day but I never published it! What I did publish said it all.
I watch Coronation Street. And Emmerdale!
DeleteI am shocked.
DeleteI've been watching Coronation Street for years. I like that they use all kinds of actors and actresses, not just "the beautiful people" and there aren't completely ridiculous story lines.
DeleteOrdinary life is good, I love a week with nothing in the diary just quiet easy days. Relish them and recharge I say.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's just been the regular daily grind of work, meals, sleep, work, meals, sleep...
DeleteI was attacked by a rooster once. I still have scars on my leg.
ReplyDeleteThe two roosters we have right now (which I never wanted in the first place) are very large. They are generally pretty tame. The worst rooster we ever had (named Rusty after a children's tv show puppet) was a nasty piece of work. We gave him to a farmer down the road.
DeleteGood new about the PC repair being not too costly and successful (the best part). I recently bought a newer notebook to replace a 7 year old model and sold the older one which was still working, so both the buyer and myself were pleased. I have never lived anywhere that had coyotes newrby but can imagine it would be a fearful sound if you also have other animals or chickens. Glad all were safe. I do admire those bloggers who enjoy posting daily, but find it difficult to do myself. When we lived in VA we posted more often. I try to read other blogs at least weekly.
ReplyDeleteYou did well getting seven years out of it.
DeleteI too wonder how folks can post every day....I plan to post once a week and even then I sometimes find it difficult.
ReplyDeleteCoyotes are very intelligent and are making their homes in large cities these days. We have plenty here in Albuquerque. When you go to the park down the street, dog walkers that are leaving will always warn us if there are two or three wandering the arroyo ~ although I've never witnessed an attack when people are around.
That sounds like they certainly come close enough!
DeleteHow to post every day. Sometimes my posts are banal - but I make myself write one almost every day for my own sake - it is an exercise. Sometimes I have no idea what I am going to write until I switch on - sometimes I am sure they are very boring. But my blogging friends are kind and help me along life's often prickly path - and that is all that matters. And I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI had no idea what I was going to write about for this post, and I am surprised with how many responses I am getting.
DeleteWe have a large pack of coyotes that cycle through. It both thrills and scares the bejeebers out of me, when they are close by and yipping. During the winter, I put the sheep and llama close to the house - just in case. My brain would burn out, if I tried to post every day. I'm lucky if I can get one a week up! I don't know if chickens can see colors, but I do know that they react to what I wear. It may be that some colors appear dark and threatening - who knows?!
ReplyDeleteThe roosters have been fine with him ever since. Maybe it really was those red sweat pants. (Or maybe they were just trying to give him some harsh fashion advise).
DeleteThe first time I heard coyotes in the field at the end of the road, it took me a few minutes to figure out what the noise was. It sounded like a few little yappy dogs but I knew we didn't have any in the neighbourhood. It was a bit scary to hear them so close; we have one of those silly dogs who thinks she could take on a pack of coyotes. I've thought of blogging everyday but, oh lord, I'd bore myself to death. I'm a Corrie fan as well. I pvr it on Sunday and watch it during the week.
ReplyDeleteThere is a lot of yipping and yapping with coyotes.
DeleteThe coyotes are terrifying when you have small animals!! Do they ever bother the chickens?
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't bother the chickens because they have a fenced in run that they go out in, and this is the first time we've heard the coyotes. We close our chickens up in their coop at night.
DeleteI'm glad we don't have coyotes here - the noise a couple of cats make when arguing is bad enough!
ReplyDeleteI'm posting everyday (except Sundays) - don't know how, but it's kept me busy since last May
True, you always find something to write about, don't you? I've been woken by cats as well.
DeleteWandered over here from Weaver of Grass. We hear coyotes fairly often (south central Missouri). Their frenzied yipping is sometimes very close to the house. A lot of folks here with livestock keep Great Pyrenees with them. We don't have outdoor animals so not a problem for us. Glad to find another Louise Penny fan. She is wonderful. I have a lot of trouble blogging every day. Can't do it
ReplyDeleteWelcome! There are some sheep farmers in the general area who do keep "sheep dogs" for that reason. There are also hunters that will go and kill coyotes on their land. Not sure how I feel about that. I plan on finishing the book by Louise Penny today. She is one of my favourites.
DeleteCoyotes sound like all the demons in Hell let loose...terrible sound.
ReplyDeleteChilling.
DeleteCoyotes indeed have a frightening sound, we too have them around our farm, and so thankful for our donkeys, german shepherd, plus we have to lock our chickens up at night. So glad you have your computer fixed.
ReplyDeleteSue
Enjoy your weekend
I was very glad to have my laptop fixed, and I think $75 was reasonable. Better than buying a new laptop! Donkeys! How many?
DeleteI hadn't heard the coyotes in a few weeks but they are roaming closer as they favour a den for raising their pups just up the hill from us. I have tales of a large rooster from my youth that use to take exception to certain articles of clothing! Blogging every day - I admire but I couldn't do. I have taken to recording Corrie to fast forward through many of the plots of late.
ReplyDeleteWe thought the nasty little rooster, Rusty, hated our son's little red rubber boots.
DeleteWe've got coyotes too, they roam the neighborhood and have taken a few of my chickens over the years - in broad daylight! So, I no longer let them free range when I'm not out in the yard or no one is working on the farm property.
ReplyDeleteCheeky, aren't they? I guess it's easier to grab a chicken than find food in the wild.
