It's Beginning to Look A Lot...

I'm not going to say it. I am not one to start Christmas too early, but I have to say, the snow this morning was so pretty! It lay thick and fluffy and seemed magical. I took these pictures when I went out to check on the hens and feed them and see to their water.

I like this one so much, it may turn into my header picture!

Dried hydrangea heads covered in snow.

Cedars in the snow.

Looking up from under the apple tree.

Even my clothes line looked fluffy and festive.

I understand why people are pushing Christmas ahead of time. They want something to take their mind off of present situations, such as they are. I admit that today's snow did make me want to bring out some decorations and have mint hot chocolate. I even thought about Christmas baking. When I did my grocery shopping this past Saturday, the Christmas music was being played and holiday type food was being displayed everywhere.

Coming up this week, instead of having the usual parent / teacher conferences following the Progress Reports being sent home, I will be attempting to video conference with parents via "Teams". I've already had two moms email me and ask if they could just have a phone conversation with me instead. Absolutely! If you had told me thirty years ago that I would be "meeting" with parents via a computer screen, I would never have believed you and I would have thought it impossible and ridiculous. Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes.

  1. I broke my own mold and have started bringing Christmas to the house. I needed it this year.
I know- my grandkids/parents all have virtual visits now, too. It's a crazy, crazy world. xo Diana

    1. Wow - you're ahead of the game. No last minute rushing for you.

  3. Did I hear Ch-ch-ch-ch-chagnes sung to a tune, perhaps a David Bowie song? (col).

Your photos are lovely. Did you know that the President's Choice Insider Report shows mint hot chocolate ice cream along with their Candy Cane ice cream? I haven't tried yet. I'd be with the those telephone call parents, I've had enough of Zoom & FaceTime. I'll be one of those early decorators this year, at least my Advent ring will be out. ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^=

    1. Yes, that was Bowie inspired. I have already purchased the mint hot chocolate ice cream. Very nice and not like the candy cane ice cream at all which has hard, crunchy bits in it.

  4. I don't have a tree any more, not since
my daughter went off to Uni aged 18...
But! I still display and build the crib,
    on the 1st of December..!
It's the same crib, mia Mama used to build,
when l was a child, even before that! :).
It's all decorated with moss, water, and
still the original figures, and baby Jesus
is put into his crib on Christmas Eve..!
And..l still carry on the Sicilian tradition..!

And! Yes! The top photo would look great as a
    the 'Header Picture'..Nice! 🎅 🎄 🎅 🎄 🎅

  5. It is beautiful.. the rising sun created diamond sparkles off the snow in the AM. Hubby just ran the tractor out to clear the snowplough ridge, but says it will all melt... Thinking of Christmas, but don't usually start decorating until Dec. 1. Lovely snow pics! So peaceful.

    1. Ours will melt, too. There is rain in the forecast and up to 10 degrees. It's fleetingly beautiful.

  6. I'm just so wishing that we get some snow in Lincolnshire this year. It looks so much more festive than grey dampness.

  7. Glory be! Those pics! I'd like to think I could put the tree up this weekend but a good tidy up in the living room is required first. That doesn't sound as enticing.

  8. Lovely photos! Our snow has been here for over a week and it's not going anywhere. I'm one of those people who've rushed Christmas this year. If I can't look at greenery outside my windows and a blue sky, I'm getting the color indoors. Baking has been started but I'm doing half batches of any of it, since other than some that will be given for gifts, we'll have to eat it.

I'm guessing these are your last parent-teacher conferences? It won't be long before January, and if my memory serves me, you're retiring in the New Year?

    Take care and stay well!

    1. My actual retirement date is January 31 of this new year, however, when I found out what my obligations are concerning first term reports (I would have to have everything completely ready, so my replacement could just sit down and type all my comments into the programme), I thought, well if I have to do it all anyway, I might as well stay for that. I have an absolutely lovely class this year with a great parent group, so I am playing around with the idea of staying until March break. That would be a more logical break for the kids, where they would not see me for a full week anyway, and a better time for a new teacher to begin. If I were having a year with a "difficult" class, then I would probably be thinking differently.

  9. What beautiful scenes of the snow in your yard. In my younger days, I did love the snow. Not so now. But it is beautiful! I would think the conference visits with the parents via the phone would be easier. It's so amazing how much has had to change because of this virus. Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

  10. So pretty! And yes, we all desperately need the magic of Christmas this year!

  11. It is outrageously beautiful. And I've seen some pretty winters but this -- it's breathtaking. I'll start Christmas right after Thanksgiving but it doesn't go up in a day and that's fine with me. I like spreading it out! Good luck with the conferences. I'd much prefer them that way than in person! Especially these days!

  13. We have also broken the tradition and started putting up Christmas today instead of the day after Thanksgiving. Of course the real tree won't get purchased till then as it has to stay up until New Year's. We like to get the most holiday cheer out of it as we can. We will miss the kids and grandkids presence this year, but if all goes well, we will all be together again as soon as this pandemic begins it's decline (Spring maybe?). Your snow pics are beautiful!

  14. Beautiful photos. A true Winter wonderland. I hope we have a snow cover for Christmas. We need a white Christmas. I'm decorating early too. The wreaths are on all outside doors. The tree will be purchased this Friday and decorated over the weekend. Virtual meetings with parents. Like you say, "It's a new world."

  15. The way you all must conduct "business" these days is beyond me. I think your red shed door is a winner! The winner.

    1. That red door is actually on my little chicken coop that husband built. It was a door from our basement and we repurposed it.

  16. I must admit that I have the tree set up, the living room mostly decorated, and a baking list made. Cards are even done for the most part (just two left that need a letter with it).

    God bless.

  17. The snow looks nice when it is in someone else's yard. You have my sympathy with Teams. I took one day of training with my teachers and said no way! Way too many bells and Whistles. Let's just keep it simple. Hang tough and Merry Christmas! Oops! Happy Thanksgiving! It Thursday for us.

  18. Your pictures are lovely! Wish we had some snow, but none to be seen yet. Just the drab November landscape. Your emotions much be jumping all over the place with your retirement looming on the horizon. It seems a lot of people are ending their vocational years under circumstances they never could imagine happening. Your good outlook and attitude about all we're currently experiencing will serve you well though. Your posts always have an uplifting effect. Thanks.

  19. Beautiful snow pictures! I love looking at yours but I am not in a rush to see it here on the coast of Maine where it is usually accompanied with wind.💖

  20. We've had dustings of snow, but nothing like this! I am not a winter person, but your pictures make me feel as if I should be.

  21. It's the same here! We got quite a bit of snow, although the weather is warming up and it'll melt. Still. It added a little magic. Made me want to play Christmas music and bake cookies. We'll probably be putting up our tree and some decorations very soon. A little bit of holiday magic is much needed!

  22. How pretty, Jenn. I need some snow to get me in the mood. Just not feelin' it yet. But maybe this coming week that will change.

  23. The snow does look pretty Jenn. I'm happy to say we don't have any yet, and I can't believe I'm saying that! :) I could go for Christmas cookies and hot chocolate too! :)

  24. The snow is almost unbearably lovely. I don't like cold and don't want to live where it is cold but I am jealous of the beauty of a snowscape right outside your door or window. xoxo
