Today, June 17 /17

I'm not a believer in reincarnation (but my father was, and that's a WHOLE other post, if not separate blog), however, if I were to come back as an animal, I would want to be a house cat.

No cares in the world:

Honestly. I would love to be able to sleep like this. (not necessarily in this position, but you get the idea).

Serenity. Trust.

Ahh, but don't let that fool you. As we were pulling out to go to a car show (more on that later), movement caught my eye. Here is my idiot cat, Scooter-the-cat-with-no-tail, up on the arbour. He is meowing and shifting around, clearly with no plan. I don't even know what he was doing up there.

The dismount was not graceful in the least.

That is husband's arm in the bottom left hand corner. I take great pictures.

So, as I was saying, we were on our way to a car show. A British car show, to be precise. It was about an hour and a half away (?). For anyone in Ontario, you know how the weather turned out today, don't you? But we managed to get to the car show and walk around for about an hour, before the sky grew ominous and the heavens opened up. For the record, I have zero interest in cars. All I care about is the make, and by that I mean, for example, "It's a Toyota". I care nothing about letter or numbers that come after that. I do not care what kind of engine is under the hood. Cars need to be reliable and they must go. That's it. That's all I care about. Oh, and can I get a shrub in the back?

So, husband walked around and talked to people about letters and numbers and I stood patiently, offering to take a picture with my phone (because I take great pictures). This was a Father's Day thing I was doing. For example, this is what I saw today:

I saw a line of cars that were some different colours with owners sitting on lawn chairs. Husband saw specific makes and models and years with such and such rims, and such and such blah blah blah..

I was asked to take a picture of this.
Ah, yes. I can understand. (No, I can't, nor do I care). I was secretly glad for the rain.

Speaking of rain, it has since POURED. Seriously poured. When I was watching tv back home, I was even interrupted by a red screen and a severe thunderstorm/tornado warning. Well, no tornadoes, but we have had a ton of rain and it continues as I type this.

Yesterday, we were having a coffee on the porch (yes, literally) and our neighbour was returning home, so husband asked if perhaps next weekend, if he wasn't too busy, he might bring his chainsaw over and help take down that partially fallen limb, as well as a tree which has been dying a slow death. Husband did not expect him to come this weekend, as it was Father's Day.

Imagine our surprise when we drove home from the car show and saw that both jobs were done, wood neatly stacked. I will be dropping off a jar of homemade jam when I make it later this week.

  1. My father and I LOVED the MG. We would go all over the place to car shows just to get a good look at them, and, with any luck, have the privilege of sitting in one.

  2. We have a few of those zippy little automobiles around here. Not local, of course, but the owners come from far away to take the steep hills and tight turns, and generally show off. I see Triumphs and BMW's and Porsches and Audis and Lamborginis. Some people have far too much money.

    1. Yes, car lovers like curves on the road. I, on the other hand, like guard rails.

    1. Yes, we have had good neighbours, and not so good neighbours. He's a good one.

  4. I feel exactly the same way about cars! Not one bit of care on my end. I just want them to be reliable and take me from a to z without a problem.

In my next life, I will definitely be a cat. 🐱 Like mine. They woke me up in the wee hours of the morning to be fed and now they're enjoying a lazy snooze while I'm feeling tired from lack of sleep :)

    1. It got to the point where we have to put them out at night, or keep them out in the mudroom, because they would do the same thing, wake us wanting to go outside. (and they come to MY side of the bed and "ping" on the side of the mattress to make their intentions known)

  5. I'm not a car gal either, but I know the basics for function. I don't quite get the car obsession thing. For me, it's about moving from one place to the other, and like you said to put plants in the trunk!!! Your cat is lovely. I am a big sucker for watching our pets sleep, they're so sweet and trusting, they deserve the best! You have a great neighbour! :)

    1. My father was a car guy , in that he repaired and did all maintenance on his cars. Now I'm married to one that has "project" cars. Sigh.

  6. Nightmare. I wouldn't go to a car show. I'm looking for a new truck and it is killing me. Furniture and cars. I don't like shopping for those. You are a better wife than I am. I also wouldn't go hunting, but I did go to golf once.

    1. No fear of being asked to go hunting, here! Nor golf. And he doesn't sit around "watching the game", so I guess the odd car show isn't so bad. You don't like furniture shopping? I'm ok with that, but I don't like looking for all the piddly decorating bits.

  7. I'm about the same way about cars except for the BMW sports car, I do love them.
My Mother-in-law always said she wanted to come back as one of my cats.

  8. That was one spectacularly clean engine! Maybe the reason for the request to photograph it.

  10. That sounds like fantastically good neighbours - but I guess you are too - helping one another is usually how these situations arise.

  11. I like the photo of your sleeping kitty - yes to live that care free life ... but no wait our vet told us we need to be careful not to allow captivity stress to creep into the kitties lives ... more guilt! Cars, they are a tool to get from A to B because buses don't run out here (col). You are a good wife attending & taking necessary photos from the car show. Scooter in the arbour - maybe a bird? But certainly no captivity stress for him. ... Mary-Lou

  12. Too funny about your cat. My Mr. would have LOVED that car show! What a nice surprise to come home to!! Have a great week.

  13. Oh, we would be good car show partners. We'd stay close enough so the camera was within shouting distance, make the occasional supportive noise and then just dish about everything else!

I know what you mean about coming back as a house cat. I often think the same of Lizzie. She has it far better than most! (I do think Scooter had a plan when he started, but the best laid plans...)

Sorry about your rain and limb and glad it was taken down quickly. We got the same thing you did on Saturday night. Torrential downpour --much of which went into my basement. Good ol' Rick -- he came through -- climbing up on the roof in thunder and lightning to clean the eaves over the window where it was pouring in. Buckets later (and loads of sopping towels and two fans) it's pretty good -- but I have to start the purging today!

  14. You are a good sport to go with him to the car show...
I would be poking my eyes out with sticks...
Enjoy your week...hardly any rain here...we need some!!
    Cheers!
    Linda :o)

  15. What a thoughtful neighbor, and a kind gesture. Great photos indeed, warm greetings to you and best wishes!

  16. I used to be crazy about cars - back in my early 30s. Now? Meh. I drive a manual transmission, rather tatty SUV that serves as dog transport, hay wagon, you-name-it. As long as it's reliable and gets me up the mountain in the winter, I love it. What a wonderful neighbor! He deserves at least two jars of jam!
