This cat has no issues with water. I caught him sitting on the faux cement “ pillar” on the porch, drinking the melted snow water from the divot on the top.

Had I not seen this I may have wondered why he came in so wet!

Why do puddles always taste better than the fresh water we provide for our animals?

Look what I kind of made!

These are rolls / buns for tomorrow’s pulled pork. I got help from my very old, but still functioning bread maker.

When I’m done this blog post, I’m going to eat the smallest one to make sure they’re ok.  Which reminds me, I always ate the broken, misshaped, slightly burnt cookies, etc. so the family could have the nice ones. Did any other moms used to do that? Do any of you use a bread maker for other edibles besides bread? Do some of you actually bake bread or rolls “ from scratch”??? You have my admiration!

  1. Yes, always gave family the best bits of everything. I live alone now and still eat the funny shaped cookies first.
I also turn the pot handles away, though my son has been running his own household for decades! I don't know whether I think he's going to run to the kitchen and pull over a hot pan!

I bake bread from scratch, really nothing to it. Did it yesterday's in fact. I use a recipe that makes wonderful yeast risen bread without kneading, my hands probably not being up to it.

  2. I used to have a bread maker... actually it may still be in the garage somewhere. But outside of a few times that I did use that, I don't make bread. I've always wanted to make rolls ever since I ate the best home-made rolls I'd ever tasted at a friend's house. But now that I'm gluten free, I probably won't pursue that. But your rolls look really good!

  3. "FINALLY, I am on A PEDESTAL where I DESERVE to be!" is what your cat is thinking.

  4. Now that I am doing one-pot cooking for dinner, the various food items pile on top of each other inside the casserole and sit on a low flame until tea time. When it comes to eating, I quickly scrape any burnt bits off the bottom and eat them myself.

  5. The rolls look great. Seldom have bread here now with one member of the household on a restrictive diet, but would have to make it be hand. Kneading is quite meditative.

    1. I’ve only tried a kneading- required recipe once. Not a success.

  6. Cute photos of your cat. Nothing like the smell of fresh bread baking. Your rolls look wonderful, and how lovely that your bread maker has stood the test of time. I don't have one but after seeing these I have put it on my list.

  7. Definitely ate those slightly weird cookies. Your buns look lovely by the way.

Kitty looks very happy sitting there.

    God bless.

  8. Ugly cookies are the best they say! 🙂 Yes, I do it too.

  9. Murphy is a handsome big boy. I remember the first photos you posted of him. Is he fully grown? Murphy sitting in the water seems unusual. That said, he is the kitty that sits on a float in your pool. I do not own a bread making machine but am interested in having one. What is the bread making process using a machine? Your rolls look outstanding.

    1. Big being the precise word here. Murph is a big eater. He’s fully grown and does enjoy water.

  10. I've never used (or had) a bread maker but know a lot of folks who do. I've made bread by hand since shortly after we married. Your buns look just like the ones I make and try to keep in the freezer to thaw for a quick hamburger meal. (I have on tomorrow's list to make some BBQ sauce to use with leftover turkey as sandwiches on my buns.) I think it's an unwritten rule that moms always get the wonky cookies, burnt toast, fried egg with the broken yoke, smallest portion if there's not quite enough to go around, etc., etc. Why do we do that? Some might say it's because we don't value ourselves enough, but I think it's just our way of providing for our family in all ways, even the little ones.

    1. Ha ha- I want the one with the broken yolk! That’s a good idea- maybe I should make a batch just to freeze.

  11. Yes, always ate the worst of whatever. Why do we do that???
I sometimes make bread. Have had several bread makers but the KitchenAid is just about as easy, I have found.

  12. My bread, which I make from scratch is fine but my buns are never so nice. More like small rocks. Yours look delicious.

    1. I shouldn't even take credit for the buns, just dumped the ingredients in the bread maker pan in the right order, let the machine do its thing on the "dough" setting, then cut the dough up and let it rise again, then bake.

  13. I chuckled at the kitty's preference for puddle water. One of my cats must have frog DNA, she loves the water & is constantly in the sink (we let her have 5 minutes of a slow tap drip). Oh fresh bread in any shape - I am so tempted to get a bread maker but my hips beg for mercy. ... Mary-Lou =^..^=

    Love your kitty!

    1. I didn't, I picked the smallest. But that was for quality control purposes only. Today with the pulled pork, I'll have whichever one I want!

  16. Cats are weird. My Saku prefers to drink from a glass or cup of water, than the fancy fountain I bought for him.
Yes, I still eat the broken/misshaped buns or cookies, and the first piece of cake or square out of the pan. I call it quality control. :)

  17. Kitty prob drinks from puddles for the same reason my dogs will go to the indent in the large tree trunk after a rain or after the sprinklers run........because they can, and it is there. :)

  18. Trunk water. Maybe it's an infusion thing, water infused with natural flavours.

  19. Love your sweet kitty! Scruffy loves licking out of puddles. I don't let him do it if I can avoid it-who knows what is on the ground, etc. I miss our old bread maker. The new ones are nothing like the old ones. Thinking about it -that might be a good gift for hubby though! Hugs- Diana

  20. Your rolls look so delicious! I used to have a bread maker, but I gave it away years ago. Now I’m thinking I need one again! Has to laugh about the cat preferring to drink out of puddles…mine is the same! 😂

  21. Nothing quite like homemade buns! I used to do the same thing with cookies when my kids were at home.

  22. Love the Murph pictures. I make most of my bread and rolls from scratch, but use a Kitchen Aid mixer. I love playing with dough.

  23. I can one up you on the cat drinking puddles, my grandson likes to drink the bath water, even if he's peed in it. I just shake my head.

The buns look delicious. Cookies don'e last long in our house, misshapen or not.
