Hello Tulips!

Today was a little sunnier, and a little warmer. I went out right after supper and took some pictures. Then I photoshopped (see how I turned that into a verb?) them into a collage.

I really don't have many tulips, like some people do. Some of them came from gifts of potted tulips that I then transplanted after they had died down (the pink ones and orange ones). I don't fuss much with tulips (no extra fertilizer or dividing them) because they actually sort of get in the way when perennials start to get bigger around them. They do add some nice early colour, however.

Side note: I've been smugly proud of myself with my increase in exercise. I've gone from being way too sedentary to just sucking it up and doing weights, or walking briskly on the treadmill. I have even started doing Jillian Michael's "30 Day Shred" video. I have done 6 days so far. Well, nothing squashes your pride quite like your 21 year old daughter offering to work out with you, first time doing this video and sailing through it without swearing or anything!

  1. Your tulips are beautiful! I used to have some in our old home and although I'm not sure yet what this new property has, we did notice some tulips growing last week. So we have tulips. How many? Who knows. I don't need many; just a few to make spring a little more cheerful.

    Good stuff about the exercise!

    1. I hope you are surprised by lots of flowers you didn't know you had!

  2. Great photos. My tulips never seem to live past one year. I'm impressed with your fitness. I can't seem to work out consistently.

  3. Our front yard has one tulip. One. Some old bulb from some former owner.
Even though you exercised with someone half your age you still did it. I. Impressed.

  4. Congrats for the photoshopping. Colourful collage. And congrats on the exercise. Keep it up.

  5. My exercise regime has been very stop-start this year. More stop than start. It's going to be very painful getting back on my bicycle next week. (Beautiful tulips.)

    1. Each to their own - you wouldn't catch me bicycling! Too hard on the bottom!

  6. I really should do more exercise. My knees are a hindrance though and my dodgy back. Walking it is for me. I don't have enough tulips. I must do better.

    1. I had been putting it off and putting it off for so long (also dealt / dealing with lower back pain), but now that I am exercising, I feel much better overall.

  7. Congrats on your new healthy lifestyle! You are an inspiration! The flowers are gorgeous. Happy Mother's Day - do you celebrate it in Canada?

    1. We do celebrate it here. Dinner reservations are already made!

  8. Beautiful tulips. Thanks to the squirrels some years I have more than I planted. I like your new Mother/Daughter routine, nothing like bonding through a workout (col). I am thankful that the days are getting sunnier, drier & warmer so I'm off the treadmill & outside. Do you recommend Jillian Michael's workouts? I've seen at Costco.

    1. Would I recommend the workouts? Well, it kind of depends on what you want. This one combines cardio with strength training (e.g. doing shoulder presses with weights combined with squats) and some abdominal work. I found the sessions to be very hard (had to modify some moves), but I had not been doing much cardio before that. If you were someone who is already exercising quite a bit, they might not be as hard. It is progressive. You do 10 days of level 1, 10 days of level 2, and 10 of level 3 to equal the 30 days.

    2. Thanks Jenn for that ... I think shoulder presses with weights would screw up my shoulder even more. I am looking to add to my walking walking walking walking routine. I am trying to avoiding joining a gym. Mary-Lou

  9. Flowers and exercise. What's better, except for flowers and being a slug? You are younger than I so I've given up. I bought a stroller for my weenies and I and I used it three times. It is more fun to exercise with someone else.

  10. Like tulips, but they won't rebloom down here, so they're been stricken from the garden. I think Jillian Michaels would kill me, now if Martha Stewart had a workout....

  11. Those are nice tulips. I should take pictures of mine before the wind blows them all away. Congrats on the exercise. I just stick with walking and treadmill. Those exercise videos always make me angry

  12. Lovely tulips!
Good for you! Exercise will become habit after a few weeks...or so I've been told..

  13. Your tulips are lovely! I had some and then they were eaten. I am thinking of building little wire cages for the bulbs and planting them that way. Good for you, with your exercise routine! I had to laugh at your comment about working out with your daughter - I used to jog and they said to give yourself a pep talk while doing it. All I managed was an almost-continuous string of curses!

  14. Jenn, Love your tulips. You just keep going young lady.:):) Six days at it and still hanging in there...good for you. Honey, I just want to say this to you. If your feet can take it... run while you can. I just trotted to my car the other day and my arthritic ankles hurt for two days. I miss running. Blessings to you, xoxo, Susie

    1. I would much rather do weights than run. I've never been a fan of running, even when I was much younger. I also find I get quicker results with weight training. But, everyone's different.

  15. Those are lovely. Just so pretty.

Congrats to you on your exercise. Here's to more kick ass sessions.

  16. I love tulips so thanks for sending them to us all via the Internet. Yours look lover-ly.

There was a time when I enjoyed running. (Okay, run a bit, walk a bit.) But I think weight training is very beneficial. Glad "they" finally decided that particular exercise was okay for us gals to do. And it doesn't make us look like Arnold at his steroidal (did I just make up a word?) best. ;o)

  18. These are really fabulous! And so, too, if your exercise commitment. I have to admit, that's my really weak spot. So three cheers!

  19. You have a colourful display of tulips. I seem to have more success with white varieties than with colours, no idea why.
Your exercise regime sounds very impressive - just what I'm in need of. I've got a tai chi dvd which I aim to use for a short while each day but it doesn't always work out that way! It's nice that you are able to exercise with your daughter. Good for you!

  20. The tulips are beautiful! Such a welcome sign of spring!! Good job with the new workout regime. I'm usually out by day 5. Keep up the good work! And Happy Mother's Day!

  21. I used to plant tulips with regularity, but after the first yr, unlike other bulbs, they just deteriorate in quality and size. Now I only plant daffodils and other bulbs that multiply on their own.
I wish I had a 21 yr. old daughter to get me moving on the exercise! I've just determined to get back to lifting weights, it really makes a person feel good and look better.
