This is the second last day of March. Now that I am not teaching anymore, here is what my day consisted of:
-drove to town to pick up a bag of layer crumble for the hens and also two seed starter kits (really should have started some by now...)
-tracked my calories for breakfast and lunch as I am on (yet another) quest to lose the 15 pounds I packed on during the last year
-fiddled around with a set of bluetooth wireless earbuds that my daughter gave me that I didn't really utilize, but now I think I would quite like to as I am walking or outside in the yard
-raked some more outside and also cut back three shrubs (holy man is it windy!!)
-managed to get a piece of shrub in my eye and literally removed it with my tweezers (tried a damp Q-tip but all that did was push it around on my eyeball - ewwww!)
-made the spice blend for a new recipe I'm trying that uses smoked paprika, black pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, cayenne, and brown sugar (I'm using it on chicken legs this time)
-helped husband cover up a car that is bought, but not yet picked up (did I mention it's windy??)
-checked out my school email because old habits die hard
-ordered more library books online (still have one to start, maybe tonight)
-watched most recent episode of American Idol that had been previously recorded
I am now going to go coat the chicken and get it ready in a baking pan. I have asparagus to steam and I'm going to try a recipe for a salad that is supposed to be just like Olive Garden restaurant. We don't have an Olive Garden within hours and hours of us. Actually, are there any in Ontario anymore?? I don't even know, but I know I love their salads from what I had so many years ago. I'd kill for one of their bread sticks, too. Funny how when you are trying to improve your eating habits, all you think about are all the foods you want, but shouldn't.
Ditto for wanting all the forbidden foods. Also "GSWH" (grocery shopping while hungry) - it's fatal! You accomplished a lot today, Jenn. Sorry about the eye - that must have hurt but I hope there was no permanent damage.
ReplyDeleteNo damage, thankfully.
DeleteSounds like a good, productive home day (including the errand to town)to me. We've had terrific winds here all day, too. Last night also. Ask me how I know. Somebody has to lie awake and make sure nothing goes crash in the night. I was outside doing a couple of things for only a short while. With the temp at only 39°F and the stiff wind . . . well, it felt like winter time rather than spring to me. Yep, nothing sharpens your appetite better than trying to count calories and stay away from all the foods that taste yummy!
ReplyDeleteWith this wind, all my raking in the front yard was a bit wasted, as more spruce cones and some small branches came down. More for the burn barrel (when the wind dies down!).
DeleteAnd so these days begin ...
ReplyDeleteYes and I'm o.k. with it, just getting used to it. Tomorrow might be a reading day.
DeleteSounds good except for the twig in the eye. It was windy here yesterday. I had a similar problem wifi when down very long story and 4 tecs later figured it out but now had to change the password on all devices ugg and do a factory reset on a sound bar for the TV. Have I said I am not a technological person at all!
ReplyDeleteCathy
I do not enjoy having to figure out tech problems, I feel for you.
DeleteYou are keeping very busy and accomplishing a lot. I hope your eye is okay. Anything accidentally getting in to the eye is concerning and scratches can be quite sore. Your chicken dinner sounds delicious.
ReplyDeleteMy eye is fine. I have had to take son to emerg. a couple of times when he was young for a scratched cornea, so I know it can be worse. The chicken was good - thumbs up from everyone.
DeleteAs soon as you mentioned the breadsticks from Olive Garden I got a craving. I don't think there any left in Ontario, those or The Outback. OUCH to your twig in the eye, thankfully you got it out. It was & is very windy, so bad it blew over the blooms of my large crocus :( ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^=
ReplyDeleteMy little crocuses got snowed on, but they seem to be o.k. today.
DeleteOh, your chicken recipe sounds really good. Let us know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteIt was good, had a little bit of a kick to it.
DeleteThe last time I went to an Olive Garden (well before the Pandemic), my entree was so bad it was literally inedible.
ReplyDeleteOh, that's disappointing!
DeleteI'm always looking for ideas for chicken. I'll give yours a go, minus the onion powder as I'm very allergic to onion.
ReplyDeleteDog and I piddled around outdoors for an hour or so today. With all this wind lately there were scads of branches all over the place. We have a nice burn pile ready for the torch some nice night. I love to hear the sounds of the outdoors. The birds, the branches rubbing together, the hum of the sawmill behind us, all lovely sounds. When the army base north of us starts banging I go back indoors.
I love the sounds of the outdoors, too. There's construction of a new house going on just down the road, but I don't even mind that if I can still hear the robins.
DeleteIt was so windy here today I did not go out and plant seeds.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, your flower seeds!
DeleteI just love Olive Garden, for lunch. What can I say, but I am on the thrifty side and lunch is quite reasonable, especially when the endless salad and breadsticks make up for any mini-sized entrees. Your spice rub sounds so good; smoked paprika is the best spice they have come up with in a long time! I could barely read the part where you used TWEEZERS to remove debris from your eye. You are made of stern stuff.
ReplyDeleteThe piece of stick wasn't embedded in my eye. It was just sitting on the top of the eyeball and wouldn't adhere to the dampened Q-tip, or even my finger, so I used my super-magnifying mirror, went over to the window so there was really good light, and just gently grabbed hold of the debris and voila! A steady hand was required.
DeleteIt was windy here today too. That is the one thing about spring that I hate. It has since died down. Glad you got that piece of shrub out of your eye. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteThe wind is good to dry up mud (and blow things out of your recycle bins).
DeleteSpeaking of blowing things out of recycling bins, the wind gust blew over both my recycling bin and my garbage the other night. I understand the recycling bin as the material inside is light but the garbage can was quite a bit heavier.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to get the stick out of your eye, that sounds painful!
Take care, stay well.
My goodness, you've been busy. I'm glad to hear there was no damage to your eye. Enjoy that salad, hugs, Edna B.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to adjust to retirement. I always felt I had to be "busy" or "productive" but I have gotten better at "wasting time" and "unwinding"! I don't feel guilty anymore about spending hours reading blogs! :)
ReplyDeleteThe chicken sounds great, the twig in the eye not so much. Glad you dealt with it with no damage.
ReplyDeleteI have a funny feeling that all of us are trying to rid ourselves of some weight we put on over the past year.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that you managed to get the bit of shrubbery out of your eye.
God bless.
Jenn I hope you manage to lose the weight you want to...I've gained a little and honestly, my motto is "more of me to love" lol...I usually naturally lose my winter weight over the summer, so I just stopped caring about that. Sofia Loren says that she owes her figure to spaghetti, so I'm not too concerned! ;) :)
ReplyDeleteWith the hours spent outside now, I know my winter weight will disappear soon, and that’s how I look at it! Hope you have a perfect Easter!
ReplyDeleteWe had a cold nasty wind here on Mon-Wed. It finally warmed up. Enjoy your time you have earned it.
ReplyDeleteHave you tried grilled asparagus? If we grill steaks or salmon, the asparagus is on the grill with the meat.
ReplyDeleteI love making my own spice blends; I have heaps.
ReplyDeleteNow you did it. I am hungry!
ReplyDeleteI have gotten more stuff in my eyes this winter and spring . We have been quite windy also.
I walk out the door and something flys my way and takes up house keeping in one eye or the other. Yuck 🤢
