Take Two

I just found out, in the last hour couple of hours that I won't be going back to the classroom on Monday, as we all believed, as parents believed, as my students believed.  I am now slated for two more weeks of teaching from my living room - again.

I just deleted a four paragraph long post. It wouldn't have gone over well.

The basic message was not all regions are the same in this province and we should not all be lumped together. There is more harm happening out there beyond the bloody virus.

    1. Thank you. You should have read the original version.

  2. That's rough. May it go as well as it can!

  3. I really feel for the kids and the teachers. And the parents, for that matter, who end up having the little ones home. Kevin and Molly are going nuts with the boys -- and they're in daycare two or three days a week. But the days they aren't they are wild and both parents are working full time jobs from home.

    1. I have colleagues (teachers) who are also juggling their own children learning online, and they themselves teaching online. I know it's a nightmare for parents.

  4. I feel so bad for you and the kids. All of my school age grandkids, save one, were being home schooled before this mess. That little gal is Not coping well. My partner and I were just having a discussion about SK and JK youngsters. How do you teachers structure their learning program?

    1. I really don't know what or how the kindergarten teachers are doing things. It's like we are all on our own separate islands doing our own things. I have no idea what my colleagues are doing because they have their own online space, as do I. Everyone is just trying to stay afloat.

  5. The children are missing out on so much as we are social beings. I agree, each area can be very different in terms of health issues. Be well.

    1. Even with all of the restrictions this past September when everyone came back to school, you could tell how happy they were to be together again.

  7. We are in full lockdown here in the UK - all very upsetting.

  8. Doesn't make too much difference to many retired people like me, but we're not parents with jobs to do and children to keep busy and focussed at home.

  9. You are right, Jenn. We should not all be lumped together. Thinking of you, and wishing you well.

    1. Although our numbers are "up", they continue to be very low compared to Toronto, Peel, Windsor Essex. Yet we are following their guidelines. Frustrating.

  10. I feel for you. Look, I was expecting to wake up New Year's Day and find everything better. Maybe each month this year will be better than the last one.

  11. If we are to defeat this pandemic and block the spread of the new strain - we must come to the realization that social engagement will have to bite the bullet for at least a year. We have the highest rate of virus in the nation because we have tried to bend the requirement to isolate.

  12. Even here in sleepy old England (I wish), people are saying 'Happy Holidays' for fear of offending someone.

  13. It's the same here in the states. No rhyme or reason to the rules and regulations from area to area. This is destroying our society. People of all ages are suffering not only physically but emotionally, too. There will be lastly effects.

  14. I understand the frustration and I think if the politicians who make these decisions would be more open and transparent AND timely with their announcements, the message and the impact could be dealt with more readily.

    Take care and stay well.

  15. I'm so sorry to read this. I agree, each area should be dealt with according to the area. Be well.

  16. Are the restrictions exactly the same for all of Ontario?

  17. So crazy! I really feel bad for the children who need the social influence with other students. School was always a very important social event for me! I also feel badly for all the elderly that have been scared to death, and are isolated from their families! It is simply heartbreaking! It seems that the numbers are very inconsistent here in the states... praying we get through this together!

  18. The kids will survive, it's not like they are in a refugee camp somewhere. I'm not so sure about the parents!

  19. Our eldest son teaches in Alberta and I believe that next week the kids come back to school. However he does think that eventually they will be back to online learning. He hated not seeing his students every day.

    God bless.

  20. I don't know the structure of your system, but apparently there is a central authority with far reaching authority. It's a shame they do not have the staff to report back on outliers. I know it would make me unhappy.

  21. I'm zoom teaching, too. Not good, but I see no alternative here, to be honest. Today has been the grimmest day in Britain since the whole thing started and it's getting worse. The government here were told to close schools in December. They didn't. They swore blind the schools were safe. They let the kids back for one day in January ... then closed the schools the next day. If they'd done what the scientists said in the first place, the schools here could have organised themselves far more effectively.

  22. The vaccine would help in so many ways. Leadership and response to the pandemic is as problematic as the pandemic itself.

  23. Our state is already making noises that schools won't be open at all in 2021...so wrong! Speaking as a retired teacher.

  25. My only daughter had my first grandchild in December 2019. Because of Covid, I have been her full-time caretaker since she was a few months old. I didn't want a baby, didn't decide to have a baby, but - I have a baby, LOL! Not what I signed up for at 58 years old, and it's really hard and stressful, but you do what you have to do. Just can't wait for it be over...
