Friday April 4, 2020

I am taking five minutes to post that I have received notice that I get exactly 15 minutes to go into my classroom and only my classroom through a designated door, after washing my hands to retrieve what I think I might need from my room, then wash my hands and get the hell out of the school.
I will also be watching the premier's announcement today about the actual state of covid 19 in my province and what it could really look like if people don't smarten up.
Then I will be personally contacting every parent of every student in my class and learning how to begin the daunting task of online learning. It's a steep learning curve. I won't be posting frequently from here on in, unless it's on the weekend, or when I'm completely done for the day, whenever that will be.

Take care all.

  4. Yeah, all teachers here moved online a few weeks ago. It's been ... interesting. Be kind to yourself.

  5. Jenn good luck with the new way of teaching. Remember to leave all that stuff you bring home out in the garage or porch for 24 hours, just to be sure ... you CAN do this.

I'm torn about hearing the grim possibility of numbers, not that I want to stick my head in the sand - I know it's grim, I know many aren't taking seriously.

Be well my friend, be well. ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^=

  7. Jenn I really feel for you teachers and all this new E learning. I have a few friends that are teachers for many years and are trying hard to navigate these waters. God bless you to have the patience to try and make this work. Let's hope in the next month things will begin to show improvement and we can see life returning to some kind of normal. Good luck. xoxo Kris

  11. Wishing you a reasonable experience with this. It will surely get better. My daughter is doing online teaching of her university classes. It was hardest in the beginning....Find ways to destress and breathe. Spring is coming.

  14. My daughter is a teacher for a charter school. Her online classes take about 2 hours a day, out of 60 students only 20 show up. Also has info for parents on homeschooling.

It is a lot of work, but she is dedicated.

  15. Best of luck with your online teaching. You've already mentioned how daunting it will be for those without computers etc. It will be a surprising experience to round off your teaching career! ... At least we know what you'll be having for breakfast every day!

  17. Best wishes, Jenn. This may be the toughest job ever, including the first day you walked into a classroom to teach.

  18. Stay safe, good luck with the new way of teaching, hopefully it will be easier and less time consuming as you go on.
Please remember to get some exercise and do something creative every day.
I have started growing some "come again" vegies like silverbeet, bok choy, chard etc. So nice to see all the little seedlings thriving.
It might be interesting to ask the kids to tell about alternative ways to learn at home, such as understanding fractions while playing in a sand pit with containers :- 2 halves make a whole container or cooking is math and science principles etc.
Maybe some life skills can be made interesting, budgeting, saving, cooking, how to furnish a rental on a really tight budget, dividing expenses with a roommate.
Look forward to updates on your new reality.😁😷

  24. You teachers have a daunting and monumental task ahead of you. Expecting you to take on the responsibility of attempting and succeeding at online teaching is going to be more difficult than anyone might expect. Good teachers should be paid salaries much higher than they are and treasured as they have such a great influence on our children. Now they are being asked to do their job wearing a blindfold and with two hands tied behind their back. (Yes, I'm prejudiced, why do you ask?) Hugs.

  25. Well I hope it brings some joy to the children. Continuing to learn is important. They have too much time on their hands right now.

  26. Good luck Jenn, what an abrupt way to adapt to a new way of teaching!

  27. How are things going? We have a few students doing homework, certainly not all of them.

  28. Fellow teacher from down here in Los Angeles, LA Unified....hang in there! You got this! My elementary school just finished the second week of distance-teaching...the learning curve was STEEP and we all thought we were going to lose. our. minds - incredible pressure and stress. We also had 20 minutes to get our things in the same manner. But we're still here! We're still standing! Kids are still learning! We all miss each other incredibly and I almost cried when I saw them on our first Zoom session. The kids are doing the HW we've uploaded in math, science, social studies, language arts, and socio-emotional activites to address that part of all this. They're working on a previously assigned STEAM project - which they will now share with their peers digitally, not the same as bringing the 3D models into class and presenting, but that's the way it is right now. -and we Zoom in short sessions, staggered days. FYI ..set daily office hours for all email correspondence
But keep to those hours or you will be working 24/7 and deal with early burnout. We found out the hard way, but we did rally! PS I have a lot of families whose moms are Canadian! GO CANADA!
Sorry if I'm telling you things you already know.....such a teacher thing. urg. Love your blog!also thank you to Mama Pea for the supportive comment! Keep safe everyone!

Thanks To God Almighty for using Doctor Razor's Quick cure for herpes to eradicate my herpes Simplex Virus...I got diagnosed with Herpes On February 17, 2016 and it resulted in a cluster of painful ulcers and many problems while urinating..  My situation almost caused me my marriage because my husband was having pressure coping with his work and my situation..
