Excuse me as I run into this post!

Dear Coat Manufacturers,

I would like to draw your attention to a slight flaw in your design. Although some individuals may choose a coat purely for its aesthetic purposes, we individuals in Canada choose a coat for its ability to keep us warm and dry. This particular coat is indeed nice and warm. It is long enough to cover my bottom when out in the wind, as well as when I sit on a cold vehicular seat.

In Canada, we put up our hoods. Hoods prevent our ears from turning black from frostbite and falling off. Hoods keep us from getting earaches when the wind drives icy blasts into our brains. Hoods are more convenient than hats because they are attached to coats and they don't get lost easily.

The hood on my newly purchased winter coat presents a problem. Let me show you what the problem is:

When I put my hood up, I am rendered completely blind. As you can see, I cannot see. This could lead to some accident, such as running into a post, or another person, or a moose.

This would be a good coat for someone in the witness protection programme, or for a celebrity not wishing to be followed by paparazzi, or perhaps by E.T.  This is not, however, a good coat for a Canadian woman who spends some time outside and needs to be able to see. A free hat to go along with the coat to replace the useless hood might be a good idea.

                                                                   Sincerely,
                                                                    Wandering Aimlessly

  2. I just did a post on L.L. Bean boots. We buy all of our winter clothes from Bean because of the no question return policy. If you buy an article from Bean and wear it for the entire winter and decide you don't like it - they will refund or replace it with no questions asked.

  3. Love the hood! But can see the problem. You'll have to buy a furry hat and use the hood as a back-ofthe-neck warmer

  4. It must have been designed for someone with a very big head.

  5. Hahaha that's adorable! Clearly you need to alter your hairstyle to something more 80's bouffant Dallas/Dynasty style. That'd fill your hood!

  6. Oh I had this same problem last week. In England I wanted a coat that will keep me warm and dry. The parkas I tried had hoods that turned me inot a hairy blind weeble. I ended up ordering a coat from Seasalt but it hasn't arrived yet. Here's hoping. In the meantime I'm wearing a hooded puffa jacket under my puffa coat. It was snug enough for our minus 5 this morning.

  7. HA HA HA - well maybe seasonally I should say Ho Ho Ho. I feel your blind wandering pain although mine was just the opposite, the hood did not pull up enough to make it an actual hood, more like a large collar. I dress for warmth not glamour Mr XYZ company! Good luck with the return. I can think of a few stars that could use an extra large ego sized hood - I'll say no more.

    1. I'm actually going to keep it (it was on sale, good price). I love all the rest of the coat.

  8. What are you going to do? I guess wear a different hat and only use that one when you are in a blizzard.

  9. There is so much fabric in that hood, it cost them too much to make it. Excuse me, but some man designed that coat on a CAD program.

  11. That is an amazing hood!
They should have put a periscope in it. Then you'd be set. lol

  12. You gotta have a really big head for that hood. Have you noticed how they don't put drawstrings in hoods anymore so you can't even tie it around your head.

  13. Hmmm! Quite a "generous" sized hood. If you snap it all the up does your little face disappear completely? At least you'll be warm.

  14. LOL. Looks to me like it was made somewhere by people that think people that live in North America have BIG HEADS!!!! lol If you sew- that is a really easy fix. xo Diana

  15. The thing is... I spent so much time trying coats on, seeing if the zipper zipped easily, long enough sleeves for my rather ape-like arms, can I wear a bulky sweater underneath... and I never once put the hood up. Serves me right.

  16. I am laughing because I have a coat that looks so much like yours. Exact same problem with the hood. I love the coat and even pinned the hood hoping I could alter it. I gave up on that very quickly. Good luck!

  17. HAHAHA! Whose head did they measure to create this? :)

  18. I know you're in there somewhere! Looks like a great coat -- apart from the hood issue!

  19. Hee hee. First thing I do when I buy a new coat is remove the hood (they all come off) and keep my toque or beret handy in a pocket. If it gets really challenging, I can wrap my bigcomfy scarf around my head.

    Always prepared for winter.
