Feel Human Again

Happy, happy, joy, joy. Today I got my hair cut - significantly. I honestly cannot remember the last time I had my hair cut. It's been months and months and months. I was recommended this hair dresser. She has her own shop - it's just her. I have a hard time finding hair dressers that I like (can tolerate) and I think I like this one.

My hair is frizzy, coarse, and if let to dry on it's own, kind of wavy-ish. This is daughter and I at the end of June when we could go to her university and pick up her degree - the only thing that came remotely close to a graduation celebration, so we took lots of pictures. This was a humid, windy day. I had actually straightened my hair that morning (has a life of its own).

Here I am today, after my haircut and after the lovely hairdresser made it all nice and smooth with the blowdryer and a brush.

I am happy with the length - short enough to feel different (and it will be different the first time I go to wash it, for anyone who has had the experience of long hair, and then shorter- you know what I mean) and still long enough that I can pull it back so it doesn't drive me nuts in the heat, and when gardening and cleaning, etc.
By the way, is there anyone over the age of 50 who knows how to take a decent "selfie" with their phone? I literally went through 14 different images before I found one where I didn't look perturbed or somewhat stunned or like I'm detecting something a bit "off" in the air.

I am making tomato pie tonight and daughter is so happy. Son just went back down to his college and the place he rents there - he dislikes tomatoes, so I waited until now to make it. Tomatoes from my garden! Another reason to be happy.

  1. Looking tidy! I couldn't stand hair that short though!!
    Food from the garden...bliss.

  2. Your hair looks lovely!
I can’t take a selfie to save my life so very rarely do. I always end up looking at the wrong place with a stunned expression on my face!
We have had a wonderful crop of tomatoes this year. Lots bagged up in the freezer.
    Enjoy your week!

  4. I second the motion (or is it third the motion?) that you have lovely hair and I'd trade with you in a nano-second. But is there anyone who is happy with their own hair, body type, height, weight, etc.? (Why-oh-why are we so critical of ourselves?) As for taking a selfie of one's self, that seems as unnatural as standing before a mirror and smiling to see what you look like to others when you smile. :o\

  5. Your hair cut is great. My hair that has been 'bobbed' for years is now as long as yours (but white). I can't stand having to wash it... and then dry it, then use a flat iron to take the frizz out. I keep it back in a ponytail or one long braid. But it will feel so good to have it cut again. Was going to do it this summer until that Delta variant came along... now, I'm waiting again. As for 'selfies' I think they're meant to be funny. My friend and I send them to each other occasionally and they make us laugh.

  6. Back to super short here - I had enough of longer hair during lockdown. I also can't take a decent "selfie". Yours looks pretty admirable. Need to try tomato pie, a serious glut here!

  7. I am really envious of your hair (and your tomato pie)

  8. Nice cut! I haven't had my hair cut in 15 months - it is now longer than it was when I was in high school, over 40 years ago. One of these days I'll take the plunge and get a cut.

No help with the selfie here. I think it is something one has to practice.

  9. I finally remembered to make an appointment today. It's to the ends of my ears. Your cut is very, very nice.

  10. You have beautiful hair! Your new cut looks really nice and it is such a good length. Your selfie is good. Wish somebody could tell me how to look at a camera, period! I can totally ruin a picture, selfie or any other kind.

  12. Cute cut. It looks really good. I haven't cut my hair since before the pandemic. I haven't had it this long since I was in elementary school. It's all the way down my back, but I need it out of my face, so it's always in a ponytail. Belated congrats to your daughter. I can honestly say I have never heard of tomato pie.

    1. Tomato pie is a savory pie. You layer sliced tomatoes with cut up green onion and basil, garlic, salt and pepper and then top with a combination of grated cheese and mayo/ salad dressing.

  13. With selfies look at the mirror image before you reject it - most of us have asymmetrical faces and mirrored is how we see ourselves. How others see us always looks 'off' to our own eyes. Congratulations to your graduated daughter.

  14. I like your hair. Tomato pie sounds wonderful our tomatoes didn't do well this year so not many.

  16. Oh Jenn I hear you about being gifted with a natural wave/curl & naturally occurring frizz - I live it every day only I have taken to calling my frizz, baby hair. Your new length looks very good on you & I think you look fabulous in the daughter's grad photo, if that counts for anything (col). ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^=

  17. You and your hair look great.

As for selfies, I can count on one hand the number I have taken, but I read somewhere that it a good idea to hold the camera slightly above you and look up (not drastically craning your neck, but simply lifting your chin). Good lighting helps, too. Used that method for the only decent selfie I've ever taken.

  18. Your hair looks amazing! What I wouldn't give to have thick hair. I love the length too; just long enough to be cute but you can still pull it it. I also look like something bad is about to happen when I try to take a selfie. ;)
    Tomato pie sounds yummy.

  19. I love your new haircut! I think that's the perfect length and that's the length I like the best for myself too. You look very sophisticated in your picture:)

  20. Your new do is beautiful. You look so pretty. Love the length. I just cut mine very short into a pixie cut and love it. Wash and wear hair! Have a great new week. xoxo

  21. It took me awhile to figure out that I had to hold the phone up so my fifteen chins weren’t as visible.. I have the same problem with humidity and hair so August was a nightmare. Yours looks really nice.

  22. Your new cut is lovely. The length is perfect down or pulled up and back.
I like the flex of doing both. Congratulations to your daughter on her graduation. Your tomato pie sounds delicious.

  23. Tomato pie sounds great and you look terrific! It's been almost a year for me. My hair is thick and curly and lately I've looked like the Roseanne Rosanna Dana character from Saturday Night Live (google if you don't remember!) I'm wearing it pulled back all the time so I know exactly what you mean! Well, I think you look great and the selfie looks fine to me!

    1. Oh, absolutely know who you mean, and yes, that IS my hair when I don't try to (unsuccessfully) control it!

  24. I wear my hair pulled back all the time whether it's long or short. I just can't stand it hanging on my face. Your new do looks great. Enjoy your pie, hugs, Edna B.

  25. Oo, your hair looks fantastic! Hair ... I could bore for Britain about my issues. Hope it behaves itself when you have to wash it yourself. Selfies? Cannot help. Although I do now know where on the phone you have to look. How is that babies and tiny tots know exactly where to look and it took me 3 years to figure it out?

  26. As the youngsters say… “ Spiffy Chic! “. Lookin great!

  27. Good for you!
I got my haircut today too; there is no nice feeling like it, no?

  28. I keep mine long so I can put it up or braid it. It is thicker than sun and unless spending a huge amount of time with an iron and just let it dry on its own. Then I look like Janice Joplin on stage with Big Brother and The Holding Company.

Gave up waging war with years ago.

  29. That is a great cut! Now, if we could only take those great hairdressers home with us so we can look as stunning every day...

  30. I don't remember the last time I had a professional haircut. Like you, I have a difficult time finding someone I like. It is almost impossible to find someone who can make my cowlicks look good. I do love your cut. It is the perfect length. I adore your honey hair color. My arms are too short for selfies.

  31. P.S. I would love the tomato pie recipe.

  32. Love your hair because of an arm injury I have problems styling my hair so have had it cut short.. tomato pie, sounds different, what else do you put in it?
