It's spring, no it's not spring, no, wait... it's spring

This past Sunday, we emerged from our house and wandered around the yard taking note of broken branches, raking we will have to do, the fact that a platoon of squirrels has been using our old chicken coop as a walnut husk depot, and the annual drift of gravel that the friggin'  delightful snowplow leaves on our property.

There were also some sweet signs of spring here and there.

A little patch of snowdrops is all that is left of a much larger grouping. Perhaps the squirrels dig them up and move them?

The two photos above are some little bulbs I planted years ago. They are similar to a crocus, but not exactly. I do have some actual crocuses, though.

I love how dark crocuses are before they open up.

This is the promise of rhubarb to come. (I really need to finish up all that frozen rhubarb first!)

Then, four days later, Mother Nature had herself a good old belly laugh. On Thursday night the winds howled and the snow came. This is what I woke up to this morning.

The snow was thick, heavy, and wet. There were no blossoms showing through that snow.

Thankfully the sun came out through the day and much of the snow has melted. This is April in Ontario.

  1. The good thing (is there a good thing?) about snow this time of year is that it melts quickly. But all your lovely little flowers and buds. Will they come through unscathed?

  2. Wow, that made me quit feeling sorry for our little town. We went from sun Thursday to Friday's rain, hail and a wind that took out trees and power but amazingly little damage and was pretty much gone after lunch. Love your flower photos, spring is out there trying to get foot in the door.

  3. Heavens, those glimpses of spring must have been so wonderful. Can't believe you got so much snow after that! I guess you can see the summer coming now but winter does last quite a long time in your part of the world!

  4. People tend to forget how fickle Spring and the Autumn is. The little flowers are pretty.

  5. Very pretty deep purple crocus. I find that our local squirrels re-design the tulips. Once, our good neighbour noticed her very specific colour of tulip was growing at a neighbours garden 2 doors down, she went & dug them up! She spent the summer trapping squirrels (lol). Thankfully Friday's sun melted 99% of the snow - forecast is 21 on Monday!

  6. If it has to snow in the Spring, wouldn't it be more bearable if it came down, say, pink or yellow (or both!!) instead of that same dull white?

  7. Welcome to Canada :) We can have four seasons within the same day. I hope it's not one of those lousy Aprils that we sometimes have. We shall see...

  10. Well, you have the same sort of spring we have here EXCEPT we have not seen anything growing yet. I did see some 'green' poking up through the earth today--and that's pretty much a first!

Hope you have a wonderful upcoming week- praying for NO MORE SNOW! lol xo Diana

ps. You 'might' want to consider putting your first name/nickname on your profile or your sign off somewhere so that people can think of you by a name....and not call you Coffee. lol Just telling everyone whose blog I read that--no offense meant. It just helps everyone connect with you better, I think.

  13. Aren't these beautiful new blooms! I know when spring DOES fully appear, it will be glorious for you all! Enjoy your week Jenn!

  14. Oh, I get it, Jenn. We had the snow here too earlier in the week and then today it's already 60! What part of Ontario are you in? We're in the "middle of the Mitten" in Michigan -- a straight shot between Lansing and London (really, we barely curve from the 402 to get on the 401! Just wondered if we are on the same trajectory. Of course, then there's lake effect. We are too far inland for that but boy, I am SO ready for more crocus and less white stuff!

  15. I know the feeling, one day the stove's ablaze and it's 20 degrees outside, the next day it's 72 outside and we're running the fans in the house. Fortunately, today is a warm one and I am out to plant seeds!

  16. Yeppers. That's what we get too.

    Happy Spring, just the same.

  17. Oh My......look at all that snow. I haven't seen snow for years......and almost never in Arizona where we are. Occasionally it might get a little frosty here.....but NEVER snow.
