Just throwing together a quick post. It’s Friday night and holy cow it’s cold. It’s currently-16 degrees Celsius and it will be -22 tomorrow. Yikes! I might make a fire later just to make me feel cozier.
The “hopeful “ part of the title of this post refers to me being invited to go for a walk with a friend. I warned her I probably wouldn’t be able to walk as far as she would like with this S. I. joint issue and other pain but she said that was fine. So we walked ( in a town close by) and I did great! It was the longest walk I’ve done in three months. Why? I attribute it to the acupuncture treatment I got at the physiotherapists. I only had the one treatment but obviously it made a difference. She also did a type of adjustment too. It was like a tiny miracle had occurred. I go for five more acupuncture sessions. Yay!!
I know I have no right to be bored, but I am. There’s really nothing on tv that I want to watch. I just finished a book ( the latest Janet Evanovich, if you know her) and don’t really feel like getting into another book, of course we are currently in a “lock down “ situation, and cleaning or organizing something doesn’t hold the kind of joy one might anticipate. Ha ha. So… here I am writing a post.
I made beef stew for supper with enough for tomorrow night and more to freeze for another time. On that thrilling note, I bid you adieu.
Yes, I heard that Ontario and Quebec are now getting your fair share of the Polar Vortex weather. Hang tough!
ReplyDeleteWe’ve been lucky so far! Our turn now.
DeleteGood to read you might be getting that s.i. under control. It's a nasty thing to live with.
ReplyDeleteI agree!
DeleteJenn glad that you could get a walk in with a friend, I am sure that has helped with the boredom of captivity stress. Encouraging to hear that you have found a physio therapist that can help with the long standing SI problems, Mr Man is finally finding help with an Osteopath. Hang in there, less than 70 days to the first day of Spring :) ... Mary-Lou =^[..]^= PS - not to confuse the 70 day countdown to the first spring like day ...
ReplyDeleteI tried to get in with an osteopath. She's booked up full until Spring, but I'm on her list.
DeleteSo glad to hear your treatments (acupuncture, etc.) are helping. Your injury, added to the lurking bit of depression most of us are feeling, can't help but add to your boredom and lack of zest for life you normally have. Our temp is 10 below this morning (Fahrenheit), but it has been worse. Our schools just went to online learning (which in my mind means "closed") for the next two weeks because not enough staff and supposedly 50% of the students have tested positive. Not sure I put a lot of faith in the tests being given though. Hang in there. That's probably all we can do.
ReplyDeleteOur schools were online for two weeks after Christmas holidays. They go back to in person this Monday.
DeleteIt is a cold one in Toronto today.
ReplyDeleteIt's times like now I think of the homeless in big cities.
DeleteGlad the SI problem is feeling better. I am doing a lot of switching between reading and jigsaws at the moment and reading blogs in between.
ReplyDeleteI completely jig-sawed myself out during Covid lock down. Don't want to see another puzzle! Ha ha.
DeleteI think I'm going to bake today. I haven't done it in ages and someone is bringing dinner tonight (since I don't get out these days!) and I'll send her home with something. Besides, it's cold and a warm stove sounds inviting. Hang in there with the vortex and I'm glad the walk went well. That's a good sign.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jeanie! No more baking here! Too many sweets over Christmas and not enough self control.
DeleteNow is the perfect time to learn how to bake bread! Bonus, it will warm up your house and the smell is amazing.
ReplyDeleteBread in the house would not be good in terms of losing the "Covid 19" (pounds that is),although I'm sure it would smell amazing.
DeletePlease share your beef stew recipe!
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, I don't really even have a recipe. It's a lot of this and that thrown in , stewing beef, potatoes, carrots, onions, a bit of celery, chopped up leek (because it was in the fridge), can of diced tomatoes, beef broth, maybe a little powdered beef flavouring like OXO, thyme, marjoram, garlic, salt, rosemary, and a can of tomato paste to help thicken it. The trick for me is to first seer the pieces of beef dipped in a little flour in some hot oil. That's what helps them to be tender in the stew. Give yourself a good three hours for it to simmer away. I pre-cook the onions, celery, and leeks in a little oil to soften too. Nothing special.
DeleteI always wondered why you seer it first. Makes sense!
DeleteThanks for the "recipe." I cook like that too. 😊
That is wonderful about your improvement with your SI issues and your ability to walk with your friend! But my, those temperatures!! Your idea of a fire to keep warm would definitely be appealing! I love stews/chowders/soups this time of year, though in Phoenix we don't get the cold temperatures like you do. I also love the concept of making enough of something to last a few meals. My kind of cooking!! Stay warm if you can!
ReplyDeletebetty
I agree - soups and stews are for winter.
DeleteGoodness, that is cold. In my family history was one relative who moved to Last Mountain Lake, Saskatchewan. I've often wondered whether that was as cold as it sounds, and how they coped.
ReplyDeleteGood news that you can enjoy a walk outside. Hope the weather lets you do it again.
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here, but not as cold as that! But even so, I don't venture out and can't find the motivation to do some of the necessary things that need doing - like dusting and de-cluttering. The fact that DH now has Covid (mild case) means we won't be having anyone over or going anywhere (which we haven't done since the pandemic began anyway)... so that's even less motivation for cleaning up. There's always tomorrow, right? (or at least we hope so) I did make brownies yesterday for the boys!
ReplyDeleteWe have had many below zero˚F in the past couple of weeks. With wind chill you can add several more minus degrees to that.
ReplyDeleteI did make myself go up and work on the office setup the last couple of days and did manage to fix a few repairs that were waiting for sewing. Felt good. I do not like this time of year!
Have a great weekend- xo Diana
We, here in southeastern Saskatchewan are finally out of our -32C temps. Some days it felt like -50C with the wind chill. But as someone who grew up in Ontario (Scarborough to be exact) I know a damp chill usually feels much colder than the drier air we have here.
ReplyDeleteHope you get over being bored very soon.
God bless.
I'm a little bored too- I also don't feel like filling the time with cleaning and organizing. I'm reading so much my eyes throb some days. I've also gotten into playing word games. My favourite is Wordle...the free one on the internet that's becoming a sensation. (You'll hear about it, I'm sure.) I'm looking forward to this cold blast ending so I can enjoy my walks a little more. Bring on spring!
ReplyDeleteIt was a lovely day here today - so hopefully our nice weather will reach you soon.
ReplyDeleteMy mother never let us be bored, if we dared say that word she found something for us to do. However, with your pain issues those things she would have suggested wouldn't be easy. I'm glad to hear the accupuncture treatment is providing some relief. Take care.
I am ear to ear smiling that your acupuncture treatment got you up and going. As for bored, I can relate. Nothing on TV, no good books, it's cold and snowing and I have so many missed appointments yet to get to. Be tough.
ReplyDeleteIt is very good to hear that acupuncture treatments are helping you. Outstanding. Walking with a friend is always so enjoyable, especially in these times. It's below freezing here as well. The sunshine and clear blue sky is brilliant.
