Uggghhhhhh

It has been about a week of coughing, blowing my nose, taking drugs during the day, drugs to help sleep at night, being in my pajamas all day long, having zero energy, whine, whine, whine.

My house is still fully decorated for Christmas and I just want to do that Bewitched thing where I twitch my nose and my house is back to normal. Haven't had energy to do anything - husband picked up Chinese food because there was no way I was making supper and we've pretty much eaten the leftovers from Boxing day. I am feeling so sorry for myself because this is  my two weeks off work and spending it doing nothing is really not what I wanted. Oh well, at least I don't have to wipe myself out planning lessons for a supply teacher which is what I would be doing if I were back at work right now.

Don't know if this is just a really rotten cold (plus sinus), or the flu. I got my flu shot (the only one in the family who did), so maybe it's a lesser version of the flu. Thank you for allowing me to complain. No comments necessary because quite frankly, I'm annoying myself!

  1. Hope you feel better soon. Trouble is with a cold sometimes it's hard to figure out what you are suffering from.

  2. Read your posting to my husband...he said two thumbs up to you! We hope you feel better soon!

  3. You truly have my sympathy. I was in the very same place last year. Get well soon.

  4. If you have the flu your legs won't work and you will be confined bed, completely. Anything else is not flu. Hope you soon feel better.

  5. You are experiencing cruel and unusual punishment . . . being so sick during your two weeks off work. Not good. I think you deserve to whine and complain as much as you want. On the other hand, think how much worse you would feel if you had two toddlers to care for at this time. I didn't have two (just the one) but I can remember how hard it was to hang on from day to day being sick at a time when there was no one else during the day to take over when I wanted to crawl into a corner and quietly . . . expire. See? Could be worse! (I still send my honest sympathies to you.) Get well soon.

  6. As a retired teacher I can assure you that you have every right to complain - poor you - two weeks off and ill all the time. Hope you are soon back to normal. Dare I say Happy New Year at this point in your recovery.

  7. There is a long-lasting, cold-like illness going around in New England that I have: sore throat, coughing, runny nose, ending with congestion going into the chest and finishing up with laryngitis. Lasts a couple weeks or more - no fever though. I guess it's no comfort to hear someone else has got it, but even so I couldn't resist telling you. Such is human nature. Like you, I find the wasted time off I was so looking forward to is the most frustrating part.

  9. My brother gets ill every time he had a flu jab and that's every year. One time he was in bed for nearly 2 weeks. I don't think I've had a really bad cold etc. since November 2017, but then I don't have flu jabs.

  10. Feel better soon. There's nothing worse than being ill when you're meant to be enjoying your time off. X

  11. Oh poor you ... a good moan sometimes is just the thing you need. Were better than here among your friends. I've heard that rubbing Vic's on your feet & then bedsocks is just the thing to help with any congestion - they do this at a baby's hospital in Chicago or Cleveland because tiny babies can't take the Vic's on their chests ... if you were closer I'd bring you some chicken noodle soup - hoping you do feel better soon, there's still a week before back to school ;)

    1. Oh, see now, everyone is being sweet and kind and I'm just a whiner. I get the flu shot every single year without repercussions. This is just germs that I undoubtedly picked up from the couple hundred or so people I'm surrounded by every day, a good chunk of whom were sick prior to the holidays. I tend to get sick when I have the time (example, getting sick right after exams in university). I rubbed Rawleighs ointment (it's like Vicks) on my feet last night, but I also take night time cold medicine, too. This Friday is my son's 19th birthday and we ARE going out for supper and I AM making the traditional chocolate birthday cake. That's three days from now. I am super woman. I can do this.

  13. Hope you feel better soon and can enjoy part of your time off. As a retired teacher, I've found the number of colds and viruses I get is greatly decreased since I've been out of the classroom! Loved hugs from all my students, but not what came with them. Hang in there!

  14. So sorry! This is my 5th day of a very bad cold getting better really slowly and I hear/feel your pain....Sending wishes for better health for you, and quickly!

  15. Well, you won't feel sorry for yourself alone. I'll feel sorry for you too. That's the most grim way to have your vacation time used. House aside, just being sick and feeling wretched is the antithesis to the word "vacation."Sending many get well wishes -- I hope it is over soon!

  18. Gads, everybody I know seems to be suffering with something! Post Christmas and first week of school seem to be vulnerable periods.

  20. Rotten to be sick on your holidays. It will probably clear up just in time for you to go back to work - Murphy's Law!

  25. I feel for you. Don't worry about anything except getting better. You are doing exactly the right things...drugs, water, sleep and more sleep. All the other stuff will get done in time....lots of time.

  26. Well, of course you can't stop us from commiserating! Why is it that illness lurks in the shadows, waiting for your only free time to spring into action? I hope you manage to get at least a few days free of feeling lousy!

  27. Hope you start to feel better. What a bummer to start out the new year sick. Stay cozy and warm in your jammies and just rest. Hoping you begin to feel better soon.

  30. Teaching school is probably one of the most hazardous germ ridden jobs in existence. If there is some sickness going around you are sure to be exposed in school.
You are one of the brave and bold
Have a good new year and may summer vacation come quickly.

  31. It's perfectly OK to feel annoyed. We had the same nasty and lingering colds right after the Thanksgiving holiday in November. Unfortunately, they dragged on into early December which is why we delayed putting up our Christmas decorations and why they are still around (so we can enjoy them a bit longer). It will get better, but not until you feel like you can't possibly blow your nose any more and then one day it's over...trust me on this and hope you feel better soon.

  32. I can understand you being upset, it's no fun being sick, let alone during holiday/vacation time.

Hubby stopped getting those shots because each year he got sick right after. Even though they say it's rare, I'm hearing from more and more folks that get those shots and then get sick.

Here's to better days ahead with a great big side of boogie boogie.

PS: Thank you for not shutting off your comments. It's nice to be able to comment after reading a post.

  33. Lots of people are complaining about that misery - I think it's going around the world! Hope you're feeling better soon -

  34. We have this nasty bug/virus 'thingy' going around in the UK too … it's nasty!
Hope you are feeling a lot better.

    My good wishes.

    All the best Jan
