Well, you know what April can be like...

A couple of days ago, husband and I took our lovely daughter back to University where she is wrapping things up this month. A side trip (in the same city) was arranged to purchase some tires, and since it was a bit after supper time, we asked our daughter if there was a place she would recommend to get some supper. She picked a GREAT place!

Now, you have to keep in mind, that I live in a very rural area of Ontario, an area where generations of families stay put and things don't change that much. We are not in a diverse, or multi-cultural area. There is no Star Bucks, or Costco, or pretty much any other big name, big box, big money anything. So when we get out of the sticks we like to try something different. Daughter recommended an Indian buffet. All of us like Indian food, so we bellied up to the 'bar' so to speak and filled our plates (won't mention how many times hubby went back to fill his plate!). It was just SO GOOD! Tender, flavourful, fresh, aromatic... (can you tell we don't get out much?)  Yup, I took a picture of my food.

It might not look too thrilling, but it was very yummy. I didn't even get the Naan in the picture. That was fresh and wonderful, too.

I have recently mentioned that we had been experiencing a rather mild spell and I was very thankful about that. Well, two days ago that all changed. First came the winds, and then the rain, and then on the way home it became snow the closer we got to where we live. Here is an unsuccessful picture out the windshield of our moving vehicle.

By the time we got home, there was accumulation.

Here's the back end of husband's car which was parked in our car port. Oh, but wait, the weather continued through the night and into the next day. By the afternoon, a portion of highway was closed due to poor visibility, blowing snow, the whole kit 'n caboodle. My relatively short drive home from work yesterday included two white-outs where I threw on my four-way flashers and hoped for the best. Here was the world this morning:

Two days prior to this, I was looking at grass (not green grass yet, but still grass, and tiny bits of tulip tops emerging, and robins bob bob bobbing along). April is a finicky month, at least here in Ontario. There is more snow in the forecast. There is never any point in washing up your hats and mits and storing away your boots until the month is over.

Now I shall read your blogs to see how wet, windy, and snowy your lives are!

  1. Jenn, I am not sure I could go into an Indian restaurant . Over powering smells just get to me. I know there's food that is so good, my daughter talks about it. She would eat every bit of that plate. :) Oh my gosh everyone's weather is topsy-turvy..crazy. You saw on my blog the change in such a short time...unreal to me. I got a lump in my tummy thinking of you driving in white-outs. I have done that twice and thought I would faith...I must be somewhat claustrophobic. Please be safe. Wishing us all a good spring once this week is over. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  3. Afraid not, we've been in the 70's and everything is growing and blooming.

  5. Wow, you really do get some crazy weather! There must be something "going on" with the world - our forecast for this week is all temperatures in the high 20's C, even topping out at 30 next Monday! This is warmer than some summers we've had in the past.

Love Indian food. If you can get your hands on the ingredients, it's not hard to make some of the dishes at home. I have some Indian recipes on rotation, even though we are spoilt for choice for International Cuisine in this neck of the woods.

  6. I don't much care for most Indian food. Certainly not curry. But glad you enjoyed it!

  7. Just rain in the south west of England although yesterday was a rare day with blue skies and sunshine.

  8. Living out in the sticks I know exactly how you felt in that restaurant! Exotic, exciting, once in a long while experience. Nice the food was good and plentiful!
Hope the sun melts that snow fast

  9. April is always unsettled here in England. It can be anything from snow to heatwave. Always has been and always will be.

  10. Our latest blast of Winter weather seems to be tailing off..to yet more wet.
Two years ago, after we moved here, we cut the grass.
This year it hasn't grown yet....

  11. I like the idea of the Indian buffet. More snow must be so frustrating. We are finally having the occasional dry day...I will say no more.

  12. Ah yes the ever changing Ontario April weather - we go through 4 seasons in one day! I was thankful Tuesday night that I had a short drive from work to home, Wednesday I spent the day chasing things flying about the yard so as not to break a window - now to find the rightful owners. Glad you had a good dinner out, it's nice to have such a treat. Our little village has a new diner that is trying chicken wings, although you have to pre-order. For anything other than pizza we to have to venture into the "big" city closest to us. ... Mary-Lou =^..^=

  13. I love Indian food and cook it all the time. I had a relative from India who was a cook in a school. She taught me well.
That storm was insane wasn't it!? We had about 25 cm and a thick ice crust on top. Cleaning off the car to get to a doctors appointment was a lot of work. I hope it warms up soon. This is getting so depressing.

  14. We got a couple of centimetres of snow this morning. I was unimpressed as I was planning to rake out the garden this week-end. Oh well, at least I hadn't changed my tires yet.

  15. We got the wet, not so much snow. Such rainfall and winds!!!

  16. I know what you mean about eating out in a really good restaurant. Do you suppose it's because our times of doing so are so infrequent?

So glad you didn't REALLY get hit with the brunt of the snowstorm while you were driving home. (Well, I guess you did to a great enough extent driving home from work the next day.) Anywho, glad both trips turned out okay.

It's just strange the way parts of your country and ours are getting heavy snows this late in the winter. We haven't had any in quite a while but hubby told me this morning they are forecasting heavy snow for weekend after this one. Personally, I don't know how they can accurately predict such a thing so far in advance. (And I do hope they're wrong. I love the snow but this time of the year . . . enough already.)

Today the wind gusts up to 40 mph are making it cold enough. Temp is only around 20F.

  17. I didn't post my snow but we had it last night and more is predicted, though it hasn't happened yet and I hope it blows by us. I'm SO tired of this weather. C'mon spring. (Dinner looks great!)

  18. Just a smattering of snow here and it will soon melt. But the garden is very far behind with only a few shoots showing.

  19. I love Indian food! You've reminded me that I haven't had it in a long time. The weather has been insane this week. We've had snow, as well, even today. Just when I put the boots away, I have t take them back out.

  20. Your description on where you live could easily have described our former life in Virginia on the eastern shore. It was considered rural too and no big box stores and certainly nothing more exotic than Chinese restaurants. We too enjoyed a trip to the big city every now and then, which in our case was a 90 minute drive. And, now we only have a short walk to a downtown area with a choice of foods. We also had snow here in Nashua, NH, this week. Yesterday afternoon it looked like a blizzard was raging, but by evening there was no accumulation.

  21. Oh- the miserable weather. It is so changeable this time of year and I get so sick of winter leaching over into spring. I hope that we all find that Spring is not far off.

I hope you have a really wonderful week-xo Diana

  22. I love Indian food! How I wish we had something other than the same old, same old Chinese restaurant in the area. I was thinking of the fickleness of April this morning, as I contemplated my coat hooks - rain jacket, down coat, heavy vest, hoodie. I use them all in a week, so can never put anything away! Let's hope this last spell gets winter on its way somewhere else. Driving in white outs makes my hair stand on end!

  23. Winter is laughing at us Jenn...:) Soon! I used to go to an Indian Buffet in Montreal, it was so good! I think if I asked for Indian food up here I'd be tarred and feathered...it's just poutines and burgers as far as the eye can see, which I guess isn't SO bad! :)

  24. April always means mud, snow, snow, mud, 1/4 of a sunny day - snow, mud, mud, repeat.
