I thought I would quickly pop back here for an update. We are having another good old fashioned winter again. LOTS of snow in "southwestern Ontario" with lake effect snow coming off of the Great Lakes. At the moment, we are in quite a cold snap. Keep in mind, we are measuring in Celsius.
Yes, that's a going to be a low tonight of -24, feels like -34. If you don't understand, "feels likes" means taking into account the wind chill factor. So even though you might be outside in a balmy -24, with the wind blowing, it's more like -34. Let's just say that the cats don't stay outside very long in this weather.
Husband and I got away for a week and thoroughly enjoyed the sun whilst at home they were getting a blizzard which closed roads and actually closed schools for a couple of days (usually the busses are cancelled, but schools remain open). Busses get cancelled because the back roads are not able to be cleared in time by the snow ploughs, or the blowing snow is causing white outs that are too dangerous for busses to be travelling in. We really enjoyed the resort we were at (Dominican Republic) and would consider returning there some day. It was 28 degrees there. Lovely.
Being as it is a sunny morning (a rarity), here are some east-facing and west-facing porch pictures to show you our snow.
I hope you are warm and contented, wherever you are in the world.

Well, I made a post saying that it's cold but comparing with you we are really warm. 🤭
ReplyDeleteStay warm!
ReplyDeleteDid you love the Dominican Republic? Were you tempted to stay there for longer than a week?
ReplyDeleteWe’ve been to the Dominican many times and like Punta Cana especially. Tempted to stay longer? Yes but not financially in our cards haha!
DeleteGosh -12 is cold and all that snow too, we think its cold when its 1C ! Today its 7.2C with a stiff breeze so 'vest' wearing weather!
ReplyDeleteI read back as you were absent for a while, so I was sorry to read about your brother, a sad time for your family.
Thank you, Chris!
Delete-24 is too cold to contemplate and far too cold for me to even understand. Snow snow everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThat holiday must have been wonderful
I remember that you have been to the Dominican Republic before. It used to be very popular as a destination with British but I don't know if it still is. We have dull and grey January here which is to be expected. If we were to have such prolonged cold weather that you have I am sure we would have suitable houses. Our houses still give us worries in just -9 degrees as our water pipes are not buried nor our houses insulated well enough so I go through fear when we get to those temperatures, but so far only once this winter. I am glad you posted again. Thank you. Rachel xx
ReplyDeleteThere used to be many more British visiting the DR years ago. We did meet a few people from England this trip. One couple just celebrated their engagement there.
DeleteWe were at -23C this morning, but it has warmed up some. After the -38C feeling like -55C this weather is absolutely lovely. You have gotten way more snow than we have had here on the prairies (Saskatchewan) this winter.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Prairie cold is a whole other category!
DeleteDefinitely colder and snowier than us! Well, we didn't actually get snow, we got freezing rain. Snow is in the forecast for Saturday.
ReplyDeleteAnother bitter cold one tonight!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you were able to get away for a break from the cold.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite enjoying the warmer weather here in Arizona. I get reports from my daughter and brother daily about how bad the weather has been in Saskatchewan. There's a warming trend, they are expecting temperatures near or above freezing this weekend into next week.
I'm so glad you got away! You got slammed with more snow that we did. Rick is headed to the Canadian Soo next week to spend money in Canada and ski. Looks like he'll have plenty of snow! Your holiday sounds wonderful. And warm!
ReplyDeleteWe are very cold in Northern NH. But a nice woodstove in the basement helps.
ReplyDeleteCathy
We were in a deep freeze here in Saskatchewan and have had very little snow. This morning it's above freezing and the snow is melting! What a crazy winter.
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see you posting. Here (Arizona) it got to 25C which was enough to open the doors and let in some fresh air. Before you mad-jealous, keep in mind come July it will be 50C
ReplyDeleteYou truly are covered up! But the break to the DR sounds wonderful.
